We had an odd start to our stay here, because we booked it thru Booking.com and we're confirmed, etc. When we arrived, the host said they were closed on a Tuesday but to come in anyway. That was clearly a Booking.com issue. Once we were in and settled, it was all great. Lovely space to spend the night. Clean and quiet

Nice room with a full bathroom

Absolutely amazing! Rooms are very clean, nice-looking and cosy. Owners are very pleasant and the atmosphere and breakfast they prepared for us was top-notch! It's located in a convenient distance from the town centre. Both walking and taking bus there is very quick. Overall perfect stay for all your Athlone needs and explorations.

Absolutely amazing!

We stopped in Athlone on our way from Dublin to Galway.  Jim was a very warm and engaged host.  We enjoyed tips for dining and driving and the most wonderful breakfast that included local cheeses, yogurt and fresh bread.

Wonderful breakfast, warm host!

Just after returning from our trip and cannot speak highly enough of our hosts and this beautiful facility. They are very friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to assist you. Continental breakfast on offer was excellent, from beautiful selection of cheeses to home cured ham, fabulous selection of freshly baked breads and scones baked by his own daughters. Thanks again Jim and Nancy, we will return 👍

Very, very friendly hosts. We arrived very late at night and it wasn't a problem. The room was very spacious and had every commodity that you need. The breakfast area was very beautiful. We actually got a menu for breakfast. A variety of different breads to choose from and on top of that some complementar pancakes. The Denbys were very hospitable and showed interest in our plans and gave us valuable tips for our travels. All in all just agreat experience.

Room comfortable, greenway walk, cycle or run to town or 40km to Mullingar by greenway (add to todo list). Jim an engaging, friendly and easy host. Bread at breakfast to die for. Baked on site.  Athlone worth a visit too.

Great place to stay.

We stayed our first night in Ireland at Shelmalier House.  What a great first night!  Very warm and kind owners, great breakfast (I still want the recipe for your special scone cakes!), nice room in quiet neighborhood. Very nice!

Great stay!

Jim was a very nice host, professional without losing the warm friendly Irish welcome.  They have been in business for a very long time and it shows in their work.  The B&B almost felt like a small hotel.  After showing us our room, Jim gave us a good recommendation for dinner and great directions for avoiding the detour caused by construction, both of which were very much appreciated.  The room was spacious and clean.  There was a book giving a thorough listing of things to do in the area, recommendations for dinner and even numbers for emergencies (like the local doctor).  Their breakfast menu, printed on a little menu book, was full of wonderful choices.  Breakfast was absolutely delicious.  The only downside was that it was very difficult to see down the road when exiting the property.  We would definitely stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

Couldn’t fault it in any way. House is beautiful, the host is lovely and oh my goodness the breakfast was to die for !
We stopped for one night in Athlone en route to Galway and I’m glad that we chose to stay here.
