This is a beautiful place to stay and experience the beauty of the Tirtagangga region. The rooms are clean and decorated in Balinese style. It offers a relaxing atmosphere and the staff is really friendly and helpful. Whatever you need, just ask for advice and help. They can arrange great hikes in the beautiful ricefields of Tirtagangga, which are better than anywhere I've been in Bali. From here, you can easily make daytrips to Amed for snorkling or diving, the beautiful White Sand Beach in the south and visit the waterpalace of Tirtagangga. It's also very nice to visit Lempuyan - a mountain where the Dragon Temple is located. One that should be on your list! Further up the mountain you can take 1700 steps to the top. On the way you'll fine 5 more temples. The hike is really nice to enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding area. Geria Semalung iss a good place to visit if you have a motorbike, but if not you can ask for a driver (the prices are very reasonable). In this area you can experience the real Bali and enjoy the kindness of the people. 

Make sure you ask for the Tirtagangga Song, written by Dadap, the host of Geria Semalung.

Priceless view, beautiful bungalows and helpful staff!

Great off the beaten path bungalows with fantastic views over the hills and valleys.  Room was very comfortable and clean, staff were friendly but the setting is the superstar here.  Rented a scooter bike and drove to tirta gangga, which is very closeby, and around the small villages.  Highly recommended for a short stay, as there is not a lot of sights other than tirta gangga close, but an overnight on the way to/from Amed is a must.

Wonderful views

On our last visit to Bali, we stopped briefly at Tirttaganga and fell in love with it.  We knew that the next time we came; we would spend more time there. While searching for accommodations, we came across Geria Semalung Bungalows.
While it can be difficult to find, Geria Semalung is worth the effort.  The bungalows and clean and comfortable, the staff are very helpful and pleasant and the view from the veranda nothing short of spectacular.  Off the main roads and beaten track, it provides a great escape from the crowded resort areas.
The breakfasts were mediocre but suppers were great.  Lunch at the Good Karma Restaurant was cheap and really good.
It was a short walk by trail through rice paddies and jungle to Tirttaganga which is a wonderful place to sit and watch time slide by.

If the local healer comes by and offers a Massage, don't negotiate, just settle in for the most amazing expirience (although it can be difficult to co-ordinate as he speaks no english)
I would have to say our time at Geria Semalung and Tirttaganga was the highlight of this trip to Bali.

A bit of Heaven in Paradise

We had one of only four large beautifully furnished free standing bungalows on top of a hill in the small hamlet of Ababi, away from the main road (close to Tirtagangga).  The Bali & Lombok Rough Guide explains in detail how to find it. The views were amazing: the large valley, Tirtigangga water palace, forest, coast and the island of Lombok. You can walk to the village of Tirtigangangga by road (30 minutes); alternatively there are farmers' paths downhill which take only 15 minutes - walking boots recommended. Fortunately, they have a chef on site who cooks wonderful (large) local evening meals - you choose your dishes at breakfast time so that they can buy all the fresh ingredients during the day. It is Japanese owned but run by Balinese and the staff are all very polite and helpful.  A very nice place to relax for a few days.

Fabulous views and very peaceful

What I liked: 

The bungalows were very cosy and clean, which is very important to me. It was nicely built too, with a delightful terrace overlooking the garden, nice spacious and clean bathroom with hot water. I liked that all fittings and furnishings were made of hardwood which I know can be really expensive. 

I can see that the owner put a lot of thought and care into building the place and it shows. There were pretty drawings of elephants in our bungalow, and elephants were also carved into the hardwood doors - both front door and toilet door.

The bungalows were one of the best homestays in the area (I checked the others) and it had the cleanest rooms, linens and a great bathroom. 

The garden was beautiful. Very quiet place with nothing around and pretty views. Great if you're looking to really get away from everything and everyone. 

What I didn't like: 

It's in the middle of nowhere - be sure to arrive before sundown. The village of Ababi is like a ghost town at night with absolutely nothing opened after 8pm. There are no Indomarets or Alfamarts around. Nothing but mist and packs of dogs wondering about. At some places, the roads leading to Ababi had no street lights and were surrounded by dense jungle. I was terrified and almost cried a few times.

There was absolutely NO food after dark - Here in booking.com and even on Tripadvisor, it says that the guesthouse has an on-site restaurant. But guess what? There wasn't. There was a restaurant but there was no cook and no food. Luckily we brought some fried chicken with us but it wasn't enough. I feel like the guesthouse needs to tell everyone that there is NO restaurant on-site so people can come better prepared. Despite the blackness outside, we decided to drive out to look for food - except for one partially opened warung selling water, drinks and snacks, there was nothing opened. We survived the night by eating bananas. 

WIFI - is only available at the restaurant area and not in the bungalow. Bring your own modem or be sure you have enough internet pulsa.

There was no fan or AC.

No mineral water in the room, no electric kettle, no coffee/tea making facilities. 

The windows didn't open.

The curtains were flimsy and didn't cover the entire windows. If someone wanted to peep inside, they could.

The door lock didn't feel very sturdy from the inside.

I wouldn't recommend this place for solo female travellers unless you're used to adventure.

Very isolated, nothing nearby

The bungalows have a stunning view over the rice fields. Nothing is too much asked for the staff to make your stay memorable. Great stay to visit the waterpalaces of TirrtaGanga and Ujung, or go to Amed or Virgin Beach. 

Stunning views, very helpfull staff

My wife and I stayed at Geria Semalung for 5 nights in August 2012. There are just 5 bungalows and a restaurant, built in a line along a ridge, with the most outstanding views across the countryside below, including the Tirta Gangga water palace. The rooms offer average accommodation and are quite clean and adequate. Staff are very friendly and willing to help with arranging transport and scooter hire etc. As the location is remote, you will certainly need some form of transport to get about, although there is a walk nearby down to the water palace, which takes about 20 minutes.
There really is nowhere else to eat, so you are more or less confined to eating in every evening at the restaurant, but that is not a problem as the food is excellent and varied, with all produce being bought at the local markets each morning. We are vegetarian and they went out of their way to give us a rich variety of different meals each evening. Prices are a little on the expensive side, but worth it.
We were bothered by impromptu parties on a couple of evenings, which went on until 1.30am. As our room was immediately next to the restaurant where the parties took place, we got little sleep, and this was a problem for us. But it was August, the European school holidays, and the younger backpackers staying there obviously enjoyed it.
Overall, outside of the busy August holiday period, we can imagine this being a relatively quiet place, ideal for enjoying some tranquillity, and exploring the local countryside. There is a mosque down in the valley below that starts wailing early in the mornings, and the totally inadequate curtaining at the windows (which let in a lot of early morning light) mean that it is never going to be as quiet here as you might imagine it should be. Also, be prepared for the surprisingly cool climate up at this level. Daytimes are comfortably warm, but evenings turn very cool indeed, and you need warm clothing when sitting at the restaurant in the evening. Mosquitoes are not a problem, however, which is a big plus!

Great view, remote location

This place is a bit out of the way- we had a car so its distance from the main road wasn't a problem. I don't think they get a lot of patronage judging by the guest book. The views from the garden are very good- it has an elevated aspect. We were the only ones there at the time and the staff (one) was nowhere around probably because of this. The breakfast was average.
There was no fan in the room and it was hot. The bed was very hard. There is no internet coverage and it wasn't possible to use the hotels computer either. The hostel keeps a large number of roosters for cockfighting -something I think is barbaric and they keep up a constant noise not only in the early morning.We actually paid more for this stay than most places in Bali but I'd have to rate it as disappointing.
