Super highly recommended place! Host and staff are very friendly and full of handy info to share and assist you with anything you may need, including before your arrival. The location is perfect (short walk to beach and all restaurants/cafes), rooms are spacious, very clean and newly renovated (with option of AC or fan). Honestly, you do not need to look any further for a homestay in Varkala!

STAY HERE
At 300rs a night this is an absolute steal, driving past we were slightly underwhelmed but when you go inside you will see the beautiful little terracotta cottage (with fan, kitchen, and bathroom) surrounded by trees and accessed to by a little bridge.
The owner could not do enough got us- so friendly, helpful. And accomodating- check in and out whenever you want. Only downfall = no wifi but the coffee shops on the cliff are minutes away. A gem tucked behind the cliff resorts we were lucky to find. 

is a nice place located only 150 meters away by the main beach,, good and honest  peoples are running the place, you can experience the true kerala atmosphere living next to a traditional Kerala family.

I've only been at this property for 6 days of a month long stay, but I just wanted to say that it's a good place, well-located and well run by a lovely family.

The beach is very close, maybe 300 meters, as is the start of the part of the cliff with all the shops, dining, etc. 

The swimming here in Varkala is glorious. I get into the ocean before sunrise and enjoy the sun coming up from the water. 

There is wonderful beach path beginning right at the shops, etc. mentioned above that goes for a good hour or 1.5 hour walk to the north along the coast. Highly recommended.

The food is South India is my favorite cuisine in the world. There is plenty of good, inexpensive and healthy eating to be enjoyed here.

I'll check back in with Tripadvisor on my stay as it progresses as I'm planning to be in Varkala for several months.

We hadn't booked any accommodation for a change when we came to Varkala, but being on a budget, we knew this was one of the cheapest. We arrived on scooters and tried to find this place and to be honest, we were a little put off by the look of the house (we though) we were staying in from outside the gates. 
But! After driving inside the gate and being greeted by a kind man we found out that the house we looked at was the wrong one xP
He showed us the house we could stay in and we were sold! Big house, big bed, bathroom and own kitchen. 
Great place to stay, doesn't have wifi but the house and our host made up for that;) really helpful man, even if you need him at 3am in the morning (yes, we had to wake him at 3am One night and he was so kind about it). "No problem.." :) 

It's located a 5 min walk from the patio (the start of the cliff where everything is). 

Great place and cheap! 

I've stayed there for 3 nights.
The owner it's very friendly and helpful.
The location is perfect,less than 5 min walk from Varkala beach and all the restaurants.
Very good price for the room that you are having.
If a really want to say something bad is that the cleaning is not the best.
