It is 15 m from the parking 
So you need to take all luggage  down

Best value  for  your money 

Yesterday we arrived at Portaria around 3PM and it was so hot outside around 37degrees and 40 degrees in Volos.

We left our car in a public parking at 1minute distance from the lodging.
It was very easy to found the small family house and Mario who welcomed us with cold water, fruits and pomegranate juice.

The house has 2 floors with rooms to rent and 1semi-basement for their internal use. Yes, it is an old house, but very well mentained and all the spaces are very, very clean.
Children's pleasure was the front door that has the funniest opening system and the arrangement of common spaces are like a story for kids.

We booked 3 rooms for us and our friends and we've stayed in a double room no1 at the last floor. 

The rooms are kept in the traditional style with a bathroom with a small shower.  I saw many comments about the shower and although we are very tall people the shower was the best.

Even it was very hot outside we've slept very well, the mattress and pillows are very comfortable and I have a lot of back problems.

Considering that it is a protected area, there is no air conditioning but we did not feel the need for air conditioning even at these high temperatures.

Breakfast was delicious and more than enough.  Coffee, juice, bread, butter, cheese, ham, 4 jams, honey, cake, chocolate and 4 types of homemade pie all DELICIOUS...

It is a must to go and walk on Centaur's path, you will not regret it and take a late dinner at one Makrinitza traditional terraces with a view over Volos town. 

Before we left we wanted to buy pomegranate juice produced by Mario's family and we received a free bottle free for children. 

Our daughter told us that she really wants to come back to Mario's once again, and will definitely do that.

We have visited a lot of countries and places all over the world and I declare that this is the most welcoming person ever.

We stayed 2 nights, the room was very clean, cozy, excellent value for money and we definetely we will return to this excellent place! The stuff was very helpful and friendly and Mr Thanasis made us feel at home!

We have been to a wedding of a Greek friend who celebrated in Portaria and were looking for a nice place close by the venue, and found this small paradise, hidden in a very small side road. The owner has a small treasure with 7 or 8 rooms, not too big but very sufficient, and the entire traditional house is decorated what "modern citizens" would call "old fashioned and local" - but it's exactly this that makes it so individual and charming and out of the mainstream. Everything is a bit old, not perfect but we loved it. And once you wake up after a relaxing night a small but extremely delicious breakfast buffet expects you - nice coffee and home made pies by the owner's mum. FANTASTIC. But don't be too late as other guests might have eaten it all already...
If we will ever come back into this region we will certainly get back here.

Like staying with a friend

The owner inherited this old house from his mother. He has made it into a nice place with a cozy feeling. You get a Greek hospitality and feel. Drinking water is pumped from a well on the front yard. a nice terrace with grape vine cover adds to the already authentic feel. A Greek coffee with traditional jam is served upon arrival and the host is doing everything he can to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Showers are shared, but are clean and private.
Breakfast contains traditional Greek breakfast items such as tiropita and home made jam. Fresh bread is brought strait from the bakery.
Access might be tricky as the house is located down hill on a bricks paved street. However, it is a very short distance from the main road.

Othentic little place with old greece like feel

Nice stone house. Wonderful view.  For one night or two definitely fits. It seems that there  is not responsible for this role, at least while we are there (still outside the burning season). We had to ask neighbors to call someone ...
Cheap price, fitting the quality of (no) service and the  room.
