I researched a lot before going to Crete as I was traveling by myself for the first time, I had read the negative reviews about the hotel but didn’t let them put me off as so many of the reviews were so positive. The apartments are well located within easy walking distance of the sea, but the real jewels are the little villages that are all linked up from Piskopiano that make a wonderful glimpse of Cretan hospitality. Fantastic tavernas with beautiful fresh food. 
Some people in reviews had put they felt there was a clique amongst guests at Matheos I would say that there are guests who become regulars at this place, because it has such a homely feel, I found both new and regulars easy to chat to and didn’t feel out of place. There was mention in reviews about noise…..erm people are on holiday, they are relaxing, and may want to stay up for a drink and a socialise! so I find it a strange thing to complain about, I never travel without ear plugs because I’m an early bird and like my sleep, I was not kept awake by any revellers, it’s my responsibility to be prepared! George, Helen and Matthew are hard working people, providing a fabulous place to stay, the rooms were kept spotless and had enough facilities to cater for my needs, great shower and lovely large balcony. The bed was a little on the hard side, but that’s coz I’m used to a great big thick mattress and topper, and it didn’t stop me sleeping. The pool area is lovely, kept clean and well maintained, yes the pool is a bit on the small size, but that’s made clear in the information and again you need to make an informed choice if that’s okay for you.
I had a great day’s excursion with safari experts, which included a trip to the cave of Zeus, I have to say the cave was not that impressive, but everything else about this trip into the mountains was incredible. I also went on an excursion to Spinalonga Island, I would love to go back and spend more time there because I was restricted by my excursion timetable.
 All in all a great first solo trip and I will be back to Crete, thankyou.

First time to Matheos studios, what a find. A big thanks to Helen, George and Mathew who made us feel so welcome. BBQ night a must, great food and company, a good way to mix and get to know people. Rooms were kept spotless thanks to Tilly. Best shower and hair dryer.
Amazing location in the village of Piskopiano, plenty traditional Greek tavernas and restaurants. Will definitely be returning.

A taste of traditional Greece

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Matheos Appartments.The owners Helen, George and Mathew go above and beyond to make sure you have a great holiday.Barbeque night is brilliant, and the owners are keen to introduce you to other guests, everyone feels included, we met some lovely people.
  The Apartments, Bar, and Pool area are spotless.
There are also some beautiful bars and Tavernas just a short walk away.We will definitely return here next year.

We had the best time at Matheos Apartments.

What an amazingly family run resort. The hospitality was first class from start to finish. The weekly bbq was cracking. You are made to feel like part of the family. Can't wait till we get chance to go back.

Our 2nd visit to these amazing well run apartments close to shops and tavernas and it won’t be our last, highly recommended . You are made so welcome from the moment of arrival by the whole family Matthew, Helen and George. They all work so hard to ensure you have a great holiday. The place is kept spotlessly clean by the ever smiling Tilly. Many returning guests prove how good the accommodation and atmosphere is. Good range of tasty snacks  available from pool bar. BBQ Night not to be missed. Also best showers in Greece.

Amazing apartments highly recommend 

This was our first time staying in Matteo’s and it won’t be our last.  We have stayed in the area many times and must say these apartments are fantastic and the family make you feel so welcome, nothing is too much trouble. They are located in a lovely, quiet area but literally 2 minutes walk to wonderful restaurants, bars and taverns. The apartments are spotless, comfortable and bright. Absolutely fantastic bathrooms. Even though they are self catering we only used the kettle because there are so many wonderful places to eat. I did enjoy lovely Greek yogurt with fruit and honey most mornings for breakfast and we can highly recommend the bbq night, excellent value for money and the food was absolutely delicious. Enjoyed our stay here very much. Thank you

Fantastic holiday 

The reviews for this place weren't wrong and I'm so glad we chose it to introduce our close friends to Greece for the very first time. Everything you come to expect from the Greek islands - friendliness, hospitality, the family feel, great food, comfort, relaxation - Matheos (and the local area) has it in spades. I see now why so many people have been back here multiple times. It's a home from home where you feel instantly part of the small community there. Helen, Matthew and George were great hosts, always happy to help. They even kindly invited us and all of the hotel guests to join them for Matthew's birthday - we were lucky enough to be given a free Greek BBQ and boy, was it good! The rooms are clean and comfortable. It felt like a very safe area to stay (though I've always felt that in Greece). It's just slightly away from the hubbub of Piskopiano village meaning you can have the peace and quiet when you need it. As others have said, the three local towns provide everything you need and more. You're spoilt for choice with tavernas and supermarkets. Highly recommend Harakas taverna in Old Hersonissos and Rahati cafe and Souvlaki Time in Koutouloufari. A week here just wasn't enough, so if you can afford to stay for longer, my best advice is do it!!
