My Husband and I stayed for three nights at the Gasthof Kreuz Post in authentic picture post card Staufen.  Our hosts the Zahn family, really know the ins and outs of the hotel business. Our unique room, one of 12 in this cozy hotel was filled with all of the necessities -  relaxing chair, hair drier, coffee tea making, TV, roomy and a restful, comfortable bed.
The morning coffee with breakfast is fresh brewed to your specifications and the buffet leaves you wanting for nothing.  Our dinners were outstanding!!  Fresh white asparagus with fresh broiled fish is to die for and the fish soup is devine.  Appetizers are inspired and as tasty as they look.
We had such a good visit to Gasthof Kreuz Post in Staufen and the Black forest  area that it will stay in our favorite memories forever.

Fabulous small family style Hotel in beautiful Staufen

This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel.   It is tastefully decorated in what I would call "German/French provincial".  The rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated.  The restaurant cuisine is excellent as is the breakfast.   I would highly recommend this charming hotel.  Book early in the vacation season as this is a very small hotel.

Kreuz Post has a perfect location within a block of big, and free, parking areas along the river, and sitting on the main street in town, only a block from the market square, plus across the street from Decker, a top cafe and chocolatier in Staufen.  The hotel itself has bit of a Laura-Ashley-look in its rooms.  The modern bathrooms have lovely wall tiles..This is Germany, so every detail is taken care of and the rooms are immaculate.  We had lovely fall weather at our visit and we were quite comfortable.  A sizable and delicious buffet breakfast was included.  This is a top choice in Staufen.

Charming Hotel in Medieval Town

I rarely write reviews and only for those places which have provided a truly special experience.  Gasthof Kreuz-Post in Staufen does so.  I recently stayed at this hotel with my older parents, sister and young adult daughter.

While there are many wonderful things to say about Gasthof Kreuz-Post, I will start by saying that my daughter accidentally left a valuable and sentimental watch in the room when we left.  We only discovered this when the hotel contacted us (rather than the other way around)!  They shipped the watch back to us in the U.S. free of charge.  Never in all of my years of travel have I had an experience like this (and I have lost forever more than my fair share of things at hotels, including some very fancy ones).

Beyond this extraordinary experience, the rooms were comfortable and elegantly furnished, with plenty of room and nice bathroom fixtures.  The beds were comfortable as well.  The hotel is very conveniently located right in the heart of the charming village of Staufen, which is wonderful in and of itself and also a great starting point for exploring Freiburg and the Black Forest.  One warning to American visitors -- like many other hotels in Europe, this one does not have air conditioning, but we were comfortable even on hot days by keeping the shades closed etc.

The hotel restaurant is also wonderful.  Decorated in a cosy, yet not hokey, local style, it also has a lovely outdoor seating area directly on Staufen's main pedestrian square.  The food is fresh and beautifully prepared and the menu offers a wider range of, and lighter, dishes than can be found in many German restaurants.  The Dover sole was so delicious that my father had it for both lunch and dinner!

My highest recommendation goes to Gasthof Kreuk-Post and the village of Staufen.

Excellent Hotel in a Charming Village

The Kreuz Post was a quest respite to enjoy the lovely town of Staufen from. We rested well here after flying to Zurich and driving here. The room was very comfortable the only downside was no wifi, which is a problem for more modern electronic devices.
