We called the day before to say what time we'd be arriving... however when we arrived (on time) there was no one there to let us in. After trying the bell for a while we phoned the owner... she said she'd be there in 5mins but it was more like 15mins. After a 10 hour drive (not their fault, obviously) this was not what we wanted. An apology would have been nice but none was forthcoming. Other than not being there to let us in, Caroline was very cheerful and friendly though. 

The building, and the room itself (Malabar) are nicely decorated and comfortable, and we quite liked the shared breakfast table. It's possibly a bit pricey for the size, and parking can be a nightmare (we were lucky).

On balance, just ok...

There are four themed rooms: Indian, Moroccan, Venetian and sub-Saharan African.  Our room was the Moroccan one on the first floor (US second).

The positives: central location, charming hostess (Caroline), tea and coffee making facitilties in the room, excellent TV quality (French only).
The negatives: NO parking, VERY narrow streets, steep wooden staircase, PUNGENT air freshener, only frosted glass in the windows, continental breakfast only - everyone sits around the same table, no chairs in the bedroom, unfinished tiles in the bathroom, hairs on the duvet cover, empty water bottle found under the bed, winter duvet far too thick for the summer.

Regrettably, we cannot recommend this B & B.

More Downs than Ups

Villa Caroline was much, much too expensive for what it was.  The room was fine, but not great, and the proprietor spoke no English at all.  She was also not there when we arrived so we had to call her and she had to come to let us in.  She also required that we pay in cash but did not tell us this so we had to get cash in the morning.  There was also no parking and parking was EXTREMELY difficult and the proprietor didn't have any suggestions whatsoever on where to park, it was as if she didn't care at all.  We would not stay there again and there are better places in Trouville that are much better value.
