Great boutique property, straight in front of a beautiful beach and close to the town center. The hosting couple are truly dedicated and welcoming Hoteliers that run the perfectly. We‘ll definitely go again

Historic Maison with stunning view

Marc and Florence are exceptional hosts, lifting your stay at this posh hotel from the excellent to the extraordinary.  They greeted us warmly, explained the history of the hotel [and our bathtub], gave us suggestions for restaurants and walking tours, served delicious breakfasts, and overall made us feel like welcome guests at a luxurious home.  The location is perfect, overlooking the beach, with a postcard view of St. Malo.  You can walk down a short flight of stairs to the beach promenade and take a five minute stroll to the town's restaurants or a ten minute walk to a ferry landing where you can take a short boat ride across the bay to St. Malo.  It cost a bit more than we usually spend, but it was well worth the splurge.

You will feel like royalty

This is definitely one of the most charming hotels I have stayed at anywhere in the world. It isn't particularly posh or luxurious but it is perfectly located with wonderful views and an understated elegance that is rare.

The house was built around the turn of last century and is similar to many luxurious villas that dot the coast around Dinard. We chose to stay here rather than the more touristy and slightly claustrophobic St Malo which you can look at and visit at your leisure.

Almost all the rooms look out over the beach to St Malo as does the terrace which is wonderful for an evening drink or breakfast. It is lovely to see the empty beach in the morning which is also a great time to swim.

I would highly recommend this hotel. The hosts were most charming and made some excellent recommendations for dinner in the town.

We’ve stayed in plenty of lovely hotels but this is the first time we’ve loved a hotel so much that we’ve written a Trip Advisor review. 

Everything about La Reine Hortense is beautiful. Our bedroom and the public rooms were large, comfortable and tastefully decorated.  The views over the bay to St Malo (do book a room with a sea view) are unforgettable. In the breakfast room, there’s an amazing Russian porcelain chimney, the like of which we’ve never seen before.  The breakfast is a delight, especially if you take it on the terrace. The hosts, Florence and Marc, while unobtrusive, did everything to make us welcome and to make our stay a success.

Exquisite

Fantastic position right on the edge of the bay with a glorious balcony for breakfast. Extremely friendly and helpful owners - the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed in. Easy walking distance to everything in Dinard with parking provided opposite. Lovely room, comfortable bed and we were lucky enough to have one with glazed balcony overlooking the bay - glorious sunrise in the morning.

Belle Epoque

When we arrived, the beautifully decorated rooms opening to the ocean were bathed in sunshine and there was a lovely breeze coming from the sea! Our comfortable and well appointed room was facing the beach and we had the pleasure of sleeping with the sound of the waves!! Breakfast on the terrace was delicious and very pleasant. Finally, the owners were very helpful in many different ways and committed to making our stay easy.

Delightful experience!

It is hard to describe this small hotel in words that do not seem overblown.  Everything about it exudes warmth.  Our room practically overhung the sea with a deep window giving expansive views across the bay, even more beautiful by night than by day.  Freshly and tastefully decorated in shades of scarlet and teal with traditional furnishings, lofty ceilings and, yes, a chandelier.  Very nice linens and a comfortable bed.  A delicious breakfast, taken on the porch overlooking the beach if you wish.  The owners were the most hospitable hosts imaginable and made you feel as if you were visiting in their own home.  Guests were primarily French and other EU, very quiet, which we greatly appreciated

So soigné!

Hotel de la reine Hortense is like something out of one's imagination that one does not really believe could exist.  Run by Marc and Florene Benoist, who do almost all the work, this hotel which is right on the beach has 7 rooms which are quite expensive, minimum 278 Euros a night.  The hotel has been in the family for 3 generations mainly as a private house but was converted into a hotel in the late 1970's.  It is a delight and our visit coincided with the hot spell in April 2018 (27C).  The house was built in the late 1800's by a Russian Prince for Queen Hortense and later bought by the current owners grandfather.  The immediate impression on entering the hotel is that it is gleaming and polished, which it is.  The welcome is great and both owners speak excellent English and looked after us wonderfully, nothing is too much trouble.  The rooms are excellent, newly decorated and spick and span.  Breakfast is an extra 20Euros and there is free parking opposite the hotel.  One word of warning is that there are 47 steps down from the road to the hotel, 44 steps to the top floor where our bedroom was and, from the hotel, there are 40 steps down to the beach.  If you like steps this is the place for you.  There is no restaurant at the hotel but no shortage of restaurants within a few minutes walk.
As I said a delight with delightful people, a delightful beach, delightful views and different which is rare in the current world.  We will be back.

6 nights at the reine Hortense

Unfortunately we only one night at Hotel Villa Reine Hortense.  It is beautiful and serene.  A step back in time.

Our room was delightful, all mod cons and with a direct sea view.  The bed was extremely comfortable and the furnishings were exquisite.

Breakfast was typically French with the most delicious offerings.  It is a very short walk to the restaurants but far enough away not to have the street noise.

An added bonus is the car space just across the road as parking in Dinard is a nightmare.

We thoroughly recommend Villa Reine Hortense as a lovely place to stay.

A Lovely Place

There can be no better experience in Dinard than the Villa Reine Hortense. What more can you ask in a town whose history was shaped by the wealthy families who built their sumptuous summer residences there during the Belle Epoque? The villa is absolutely exquisite, beautifully preserved by its owners, tastefully decorated and maintained with such care. It's easily the best location in Dinard, right on the beach and just a few minutes walk to the shops and restaurants. To reach the hotel entrance you must descend stairs from the street, but the stairs are already an enchantment, bordered by flowers and plants ... it's like stepping back in time: the gardens around the villa are just what you would imagine they were at the turn of the century. And when you step into the entrance your gaze is immediately drawn to the sea just beyond. The view is just breathtaking and it keeps getting better as you enter the drawing room with its grand piano and historic Russian stove and then head out to the terrace! The Belle Epoque atmosphere is intact! I could go on and on ... our room was just lovely, impeccably clean, elegantly decorated. We were lucky enough to have a warm sunny day and having breakfast on the terrace overlooking the beach was a exceptional treat. The owners are absolutely delightful ... it just doesn't get much better when you are looking for authentic charm, true quality and a respect for the history of one of France's loveliest "stations balnéaires".
