Good and clean facilities, safe and central location very close to the airport with security and very kind host, who created a warm atmosphere that made us feel very comfortable, and made us very nice breakfast each morning. Really hoping to go back soon and would definitely stay again.

Great host and guesthouse

There is no better place to stay in Addis. This is a family run place and all the family members are lovely. 

The matriarch is Almaz, who is a shining light of goodness and kindness. The building was architecturally designed by Almaz’s son and has a ton of charm. If you can, book the suite as it really is a splendid room. 

Don’t heed any talk about it no being near things; the way to get around Addis is via taxi and it’s super easy from Arequ. 

During my stay, I actually ran out of some medication I need. Almaz, out of the goodness of her heart and pure generosity of spirit, personally drove me around to no less than 7 chemists on a hot day until I found the medication. 

Breakfast was also delicious. 

Suffice to say, I thoroughly recommend Arequ guesthouse without a moment’s hesitation. 

My home in Addis 

We were warmly welcomed by the charming owner whose architect son had designed this amazing house in a quiet location. As we arrived late evening after a long drive, she offered to arrange for food to be brought in and we enjoyed a delicious  supper. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with a splendid bathroom.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.

A delightful visit

We received a warm welcome by the landlady. On arrival after a long overnight flight, she served us savoury pancakes and plenty of tea. The landlady is very dependable. She showed sincere interest in us and in our well being and offered us the use of the safe for our valuables whenever we went into Addis Abeba. The staff was friendly and breakfast good. Our apartment (en suite) was spacious and clean, the mattress was fine, the shower hot and there was Wi-Fi available. Good value for money, we would happily return here!

At home in Addis Ababa :)

Very convenient location by the airport, and a very short taxi ride to many of the places that people need to go (usually a 200 birr taxi ride). The wifi here is extremely reliable, whereas most other hotels I have been to (including hotels twice the price) have unreliable wifi, or wifi that mysteriously doesn't work for Apple devices.

Excellent Repeat Stay

Really loved staying here. Clean and comfortable rooms, hot water functional. Breakfasts are yummy (recommend malawa- a roti stuffed with sautéed vegetables). Staff very helpful. WiFi not the best. 

Location is great if you want to be close to the airport, and there are some nice restaurants within reasonable distance. However, getting into town for whatever reason can be tricky - using the Ride App (Ethiopia’s Uber) is hit and miss and avoid rush hour at all costs!

Clean, cosy, good breakfasts

Really enjoyed my stay at Arequ guest house. I found the staff very friendly and welcoming.  Our room was very cosy  and most important for me was the running hot water.
I looked forward to breakfast every morning as it was very tasty and plentiful. 
Would really recommend this gust house to stay in Addis Abba.

Home from home

It's budget accommodation at a budget price so don't expect too much. But service is good and friendly, the rooms are well-sized, and it's clean. Wifi is available but as in most places i stayed in Ethiopia, it can be a bit hit and miss, and not a strong signal. Only stayed one night but didn't seem that central.

Overall ok, and you mostly get what you pay for of course.

basic but ok

Stayed here for 3 nights overall , Its a basic Guest house with clean rooms, We had major issues with the WiFi, in fact for 2 days we never had reception. I also went 1 night and half a day with out hot water and that was straight after I had come out of the Simen Mountains    
 Its very close to the Airport which is helpful and not that far out of the  centre of Addis. The owner is very kind and helpful, unfortunately one of her older staff members was not.  The breakfast was made by a very happy and helpful girl mainly pancakes and Tea And Coffee, or Eggs on bread. We had some hours with out power which is a common occurrence in Addis. Make sure you have the address on you as not one taxi driver had ever heard of the Guest House. 
Its a basic Guest house, they do supply soap and two bottles of water and there is a water bottle shop just around the corner, There is a free International airport pick up, but not return, The older staff member refused to book a shuttle back to the Airport.

Basic Guest House

The reason to stay here is the location, just 5 minutes’ drive from the airport, 200 birr by taxi. (There was supposed to be a pick-up arranged by Arequ, but that didn’t materialise.) The downside of the location is that there’s nowhere to eat within walking distance, and taxis are expensive. The owner, Ms. Almaz, is friendly and efficient, speaks excellent English and can arrange taxis. The house and room are pleasant if a tad run-down, and the room is spacious, though with an odd pillar in the middle. My room, number 9, is up 81 steps (no lift), so might not suit someone with mobility issues. There’s no fan (or air-con), and I found the room a bit stuffy. There’s tea and cake available downstairs, though nothing in the room. The only electric socket in the room is the one which the fridge is connected to. There is internet in the lounge, but it doesn’t reach the room, despite what Ms. Almaz said. The breakfast was pretty good – tea/coffee, bananas, avocados, eggs, toast.
All in all, not bad, and Ms. Almaz is a gem, but I probably won’t stay here again.
