Vinicio and his wife were very attentive during our stay. Both the town and the hostel quite nice with all the comforts. In the morning they already had breakfast for us. The hospitality was without a doubt the best, friendly all the time. Super recommended. THANKS A LOT!!!

We stayed in Casa Tranquilo for two nights and had the best time ever! Marco and his wife are so friendly and helpful, rooms are fine and cozy and breakfast is included. I can only say we felt very welcome and would love to come back to Santa Elena one day! Can definitely recommend it.

The owners are the best

Unbeatable price (even includes a basic breakfast!). Good Internet, comfortable beds, clean room, central location close to supermarkets and restaurants. The staff is helpful. Hot water, which is a big plus.

Cheap, quiet, comfy

We can't say enough good things about our experience at Casa Tranquilo. Casa Tranquilo is a family-owned hostel (it feels more like an incredibly friendly budget hotel) run by bend-over-backwards helpful and extremely knowledgeable brothers. We found the common room a perfect place to hang out and have great conversations with fellow travelers. Brother Hector was our guide through the Cloud Forest. His passion for the plants and animals in the Cloud Forest was infectious. He was an amazingly skillful spotter (honestly, always hire a good guide in Costa Rica --- you'll see so much more). The Night Tour recommended and arranged by the gregarious Michael at Casa Tranquilo was spectacular. My wife is frail; our Night Tour guide Christian took great care with her. When we return to the Santa Elena/Monteverde region we will not hesitate to book a room at Casa Tranquilo.

Here's a Costa Rica travel tip: instead of taking long bus rides everywhere, arrange a private driver through your hotel. It's remarkably inexpensive, much more comfortable and much, much faster in getting you to your destination. Plus, the drivers are great and have excellent insight to enjoying Costa Rica if you're willing to listen.

Amazing place. They are super friendly and helpful at casa tranquilo. We had an amazing stay. Rooms are spotless and the atmosphere around the shared spaces is great. They gave us many great experiences. Thanks.

The best in town!

We enjoyed our three nights at Casa Tranquilo. The staff helped us plan our trips and gave very useful advice. The breakfast was delicious and they have hot water for shower. We really enjoy our time there.

Beyond expectation and super friendly staff

The brothers who run this hostel did an amazing job. As freelance tour guides, they advised us on which excursions to do and they could book them for us. Breakfast is included, we had Gallo Pinto one day and pancakes the other, always accompanied by fruit and coffee. As the name says, this hostel is quiet while still being pretty central with plenty of options to eat out in the evenings. Our double room was very spacious and had a hot shower. We can highly recommend this hostel.

Hector and his team really made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay in their hostel. Having had a very negative experience in a neighbouring hostel we really felt a change in our fortunes upon entering Casa Tranquilo. We were a group of four and given a very reasonable price on a twin double room with private bathroom (10$US pp/pn) and breakfast. Hector and Miguel made sure that we got as much as we could from our time in Santa Elena and gave us a very detailed run through of the various activities and amenities available to backpackers in the region. This included honest information on which cloud forest trail to visit as well as a free activity of climbing a ficus tree located outside the town. We were offered the use of the upstairs lounge to sit and relax in and the fully stocked kitchen was there for us to use at our convenience; at times it felt more like an air bnb we were staying in. Hector and his team are incredibly welcoming, generous hosts (you'll feel enthused and motivated from speaking to them!) and truly go the extra mile to make sure your stay with them is a memorable one. Look no further than Casa Tranquilo if you're coming to the area. Pura Vida!
