A hotel California always has been and always will be my favorite place to stay. I have been going there for over 25 years and it is part of the experience of being in Costa Rica because I have made so many good memories at the hotel. The staff and owner and environment and view of the ocean and mountains are the best you will ever find. You will never want to leave once you go there.

ALWAYS MY FAVORITE PLACE TO STAY!!!

On the main road into Manual Antonio Beach.  It's on top of a very steep gravel filled driveway.  Another reason to to rent 4 wheel.  Reception was waiting for us and the upper level poolside rooms were ready for us. Rooms are large but a little dated, but we did get wi-fi and cnn and old sitcoms in English.  Hey,  this is the jungle in Costa Rica so this is fine.  Lovely staff at included breakfast daily.  Fresh fruit and juices, local pastries and coffee.  Some chafing dishes with meats and eggs but you can order freshly prepared fried eggs or pancakes.  Always with a smile as well as the young man who operates the bar and snack area.  Very casual. Good choice for this area.

Views, Charater and Service

Very nice hotel with a lovely view. The room was big and very clean. The bathroom was very nice too. The restaurant was very nice with reasonable prices for Costa Rica. The staff was very friendly and always ready to help. I really recommend this hotel.

3 great nights

This hotel was awesome! We had a deluxe double room with sea view and we were blown away by the incredible views. The room itself is huge with a wonderful king sized bed and a beautiful balcony. The hotel is located between Quepos and Manual Antonio village very close to restaurants and set up on the mountainside affording it gorgeous views for a very modest cost compared to the other hotels in the area. The road leading up to the hotel is easy to miss and not well paved but our 2 wheel drive car managed it just fine. The pool was wonderful and the breakfast was phenomenal- lots of sweet papaya, watermelon and pineapple and then a delicious Gallo pinto, different eggs (scrambled or over easy) with divine salsa, sweet plantains and a meat. The women preparing the food were so sweet and the man who greets you was so helpful. We heard nothing from the rooms around us and the only noise that kept us up was the squeaking of birds at 6 in the morning. Randomly on Thursday night there was a free bachata class in the lobby. Highly recommend staying here!

Fantastic hotel with stunning views

I liked the infrastructure and the ocean view. Personnel was always willing to help, and rooms very clean. Personally did not like the food but nothing they cannot improve moving forward. 
Parking was not a problem but if fully occupied you might need to park outside the facility.

Secure clean and very friendly

Pictures on site are very old, hotel looks old, it needs refreshment (urgent).
When doing reservation they called me twice to request payment, but I already made it, I requested confirmation 3 times by mail.
The day we arrived, at 3 pm (check in time) the room was not ready, the lady at the frontdesk told us to wait “some minutes” by the pool, and she was going to let us know. At 3:40pm we decided to call to reception to see the status and it was ready, they forgot to let us know. We requested we leave at 12:40 bit she told us that was not possible.
The A/C did not work at the room. Wifi had issues on the room.
The restaurant manager and the bartender were the only ones that know how to treat their customers.
The man at the kitchen had real loud regueton music.
The pool is old, need updates, and it was half empty.
The lady cleaning the rooms is rude.

The view is excellent! Monkeys visiting in the mornings, bird watching is nice.
There are stuff to repair everywhere.
Hotel is only for people with vehicles, access is difficult.
All these issues would mean less if the customer service would have been better.

Bad Experience

Great place with a fantastic view of the pacific ocean. Very nice rooms and good cleaning. The staff is always doing their best, to provide a good service, and they do. A special thanks to Gustavo and his wife, the chef provides delicious dining, Gilberto makes the best Pina Colada, and makes a smiling and excellent service like no other, and of course to Edgar and Selina (great service in reception)  A place to MUST visit.

Nice please to stay, Nice bar keeper, good drinks en dood, fresh Made, good breakfast and great view. People are willing to help you and advise for trips in the area and do everthing to make you stay as good as possible.

Nice place

A last minute add on to a trip during Christmas.  The staff is nice however the Hotel... Hmm a bit to be desired.  Not  expecting a great hotel.  Sheets had a stain Yuck   I was supposed to had a ocean view but  they initially put me on the bottom floor. The views outside of the Hotel was sketchy  and  lots of homes that were in disrepair.  We tried to get our money back for the remaining two days but were denied. Knowing they could get someone during the Holidays. Management would not budge on refunding our money becuase we wanted to leave.    

Its just not worth it to stay there. 
Room Key fits in other rooms. Security is lax.

Hotel California .  Much like the song.. You can check in but you will want to leave

The Hotel California was lovely...difficult to find as you cant see the sign easily! The hotel is up a steep alleyway so cant be seen from the road!
The room was clean and spacious.. the grounds and building are very nice! The pool and restaurant were amazing...loved it! 
The sunsets are amazing and we saw toucans and monkeys from the property! Would definitely recommend!!
