Cabinas Rocamar Playa Bonita

Staff: We never met the owner, but talked with her through messaging. She was VERY friendly and accommodating. We had never been to Costa Rica and needed transportation from San Jose airport all the way to RocaMar. She was able to suggest a local who provides reasonably-priced transportation and connect us with him. She was accommodating to our schedule and allowed us a late check-in. She had even offered us a stay at their other location if we wanted (we declined because we love Playa Bonita). She texted a few times during the week to see if we were comfortable and needed anything. There are only a few staff members at this motel and all were very friendly. Even though we didn't speak much Spanish and they didn't speak much English, we were able to communicate fine. They offered to wash our towels every day and even washed our swimsuits for us. Each day we would see them, they were friendly and asked if we needed anything. They also helped us finding what we needed in the area. Location: Very quiet area on a main highway and directly across the street from Playa Bonita. It sits on a hill next to a house and behind apartments. There is no sidewalk, but a gravel road that leads up and down. It was about a 3 hour bus ride from San Jose (through the rainforest) and it is only 20 minutes from Limon. You can take a bus that runs all day or grab a taxi to get there. There are two restaurants across the street and another hotel with a restaurant (5 minute walk) with food. There is no gas station or grocery store within walking distance. It is a quiet area (even with the beach and tourists across the street). Motel: It is small, single story building with 10-12 rooms. All rooms have doors that face outward in one long strip. There is a common area that has a fridge, sink, and appliances so you can cook and wash dishes. Outside has ample parking (1-2 cars per room) and patio tables along the walkway. The parking lot is gravel, but the walkway is tiled and has ramps leading up to it. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off from the beach. The entire property is surrounded by a fence that also has barbed wire on top and a gate that closes at night. The property has ample lighting up the driveway and on the property. Room: The room was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. We had one queen bed (sheets and comforter included), a high top table with two stools, and two night stands. One of the night stands had a lamp. There is a small kitchen which included a mini fridge, small sink, a little bit of counter top, and cabinet space. There are sheer curtains to keep privacy and allow light in, but also heavy curtains to keep light out that are not transparent. One window in the front of the room and one in the back. We had an air conditioner which worked great! It is a newer brand and can be adjusted with a remote. It did not take long to cool the room. There was a metal wire shelving in one corner and a wooded shelf in another corner - ample space for your things. It had an overhead light operated by switch with a fan. We also had a TV that sits in the corner with cable and a remote. Bathroom: The bathroom was small but had a flush-able toilet (don't flush toilet paper though!), sink, mirror, shelf, trash can and shower (no bath). The shower had running hot water and was enough for two adults to shower without it going cold. Towels were provided. There is a small step-up to get into the bathroom. Very clean and well maintained. Price: The price for this room was excellent! I think it averages about $40-45 per room (at the time of our stay), but I believe they have specials/deals when you stay a certain number of days.
