Very clean, friendly staff, easy walk to main downtown area--museums, cathedral etc. The hotel has a lovely courtyard to enjoy breakfast outside. Staff was helpful with taxis, directions and making us feel at home.

Great Boutique Hotel

Hotel Kekoldi was one of the nicer budget hotels which I stayed in, in San José. It was clean and secure and in a nice neighborhood which felt safe to walk in even at night. It was walking distance about 8 min if you don’t get lost from the major museums and the central market, 30 min from the airport depending on the time of day.

The staff were friendly and even when I had to unexpectedly extend my stay for an extra day made sure I was able to stay in the same room for both nights at no extra charge.

Great value for hotel in San José

The staff very friendly, helpful in making tour reservations,  and giving us advice on catching busses,  etc

Great little hotel

We, a family of three, very much enjoyed our short stay at Hotel Kekoldi and wished we could have stayed longer.Kekoldi is a small boutique hotel with very friendly, welcoming and helpful hosts and service. Our room (#1) was pretty basic (BYO bathroom amenities) but very spacious and clean, which was all we needed. When I was able to catch a peak in room #2 though, I saw that that one has very lovely design/stucco.Although it is very centrally located in inner San Jose, close to major bus terminals (e.g. Gran Caribe Terminal for going to Tortuguero is in walking distance), museums and parks, it is nice and quiet.It has a cute courtyard and garden, and an artsy breakfast nook, where we enjoyed a very yummy complimentary breakfast with made to order eggs, homemade jam and toast, fresh fruits, fruit juice, cereals, coffee/tea.Some people remarked they had a hard time finding it...yes, at night the hotel sign is hard to see (half-covered by a plant), but google maps has no problem to lead you to the address. Then it's up a staircase to ring the night bell at the wrought-iron gate, which is locked at night - as it should be in any major city center. When we rang the bell, someone immediately came to let us in and welcome us.There is a great selection of restaurants in walking distance (such as Cafe Mundo and Cafe Rojo), and we felt safe enough in the area to walk back from a restaurant at 10 pm.Absolutely great value for money!

Cozy, comfortable, friendly B&B centrally located

Lots of room with an extra bed in a separate area.  The breakfast was fruit, toast, homemade jams and cooked to order eggs.

Off the main streets hotel

Had a lovely overnight stay in this hotel. Our room was large and comfortable. An inner room, so not really a view, but no street noise, not that there's many cars anyway. The bathroom was clean and had warm (never hot) water. A fan in the room but no air conditioning. English and Spanish is spoken. The breakfast was superb and comes with home made jams. It's served in their lovely garden area.

The surrounding area is lovely with old homes of the former coffee plantation owners, which are now cafes, hotels and restaurants. It is also a short walk to a couple of lovely small parks and the city centre. Slightly further to another equally hip area and also some large food markets.

If you're arriving at the airport, I recommend you ask the hotel to organise a car to pick you up, which will cost US$25. It's much cheaper than a taxi. If you have data/phone service, you can organise an Uber, which will be about US$12.

Wish we could have stayed longer.

Fantastic gem in lovely neighbourhood

The owner was really friendly, charming, very helpful, polite and knowledgeable. He went out of his way for us. We had to leave at 6am but he gave us coffee and fruit before we left. It is in a very good location. The only thing we didn’t like was that we could only spend one night there as we had booked trips around Costa Rica.

Excellent deal for the money. Great location with excellent service. Everything is very clean and there was  a very nice breakfast included in the price. Just around the corner to some beautiful parks and museums.
