We were short on time in Xi'an so we wanted to stay close to the South Gate of the City Wall so that we would have easy access to the bike rentals.  The Lemon Hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the South Gate so it worked well for us.  The rooms are clean and comfortable. The halls smell vaguely like cigarette smoke so the no smoking policy isn't exactly followed, but that's true in several places we stayed in China. The breakfast is strictly Chinese and no Western food if that matters to you. Used the google translator to assure correct communication in check out. Wifi was free. We ate at the restaurant next door based on TripAdvisor reviews. Our guide from China Odyssey Tours helped us order before leaving us to cycle. We were glad we had his help.  Spare ribs recommended but not the fish.  We had a private dining room upstairs for our family of 5.

Good choice for access to South Gate & bike rentals

Stayed there for three nights walking distance to the main attractions within the city walls. New hotel so everything was great and as expected. Would have liked a fridge in the room but apart from that pleased with the accommodation. We had let them know prior that we were travelling with a young child and they even placed stuffed toys in the room for her to play with. We would stay here again. Not sure about the language ability with English as my wife in Chinese and did all the talking.

Nice rooms well priced

Buyer beware!  there are 3 Lemon Hotels in Xian - And this is NOT the one everyone is raving about!  My mistake!!

This Lemon is down by the South Gate - so it is not that far from the city centre - but it has a number of service and maintenance issues that prevent it from matching its counterpart. 

The room - the room is well enough appointed with with european beds that were comfortable enough.  The decor is modern boutique funky - but as with many local hotels - lack of maintenance has let it down - so the furniture is scratched and dented, the bathroom ceiling needs repair.  There is space for a bar fridge - but it wasn't there. The windows seem to lack double glazing - so it was noisy in the evening.  

The staff - The staff spoke survival english and were polite enough

Cleanliness. - with a lack of maintenance - many things looked "grubby" .  I certainly felt the bathroom could have been cleaner - particularly in the "hard to clean" spots! 

Hotel amenities - We elected not to eat the local breakfast provided - so can't comment on the food.  We did ask for a beer after returning from a long day of touring - and it was warm ! When asked for a glass we were provided a paper cup! So the "bar" amenities are lacking. 

All that said - we stayed for 2 nights - we were out of the hotel touring from 0900 to 2100 - so we really didn't need much - and for the 400 RMB they charged a night - we thought it was reasonable. 

Would I go back - probably not - but if you're looking for a cheap weekend and you don't plan on spending that much time in the hotel - it would be worth considering.

Picked the wrong Lemon!

The Lemon hotel is a modern hotel and the rooms offer all facilities you need. The rooms have good beds. European standard. The glass bathroom has no tub but a good and big shower. Unfortunately we had to change rooms because, although the room was cleaned, when closing the bathroom door we found a handfull of burned cigarets. The housekeeping staff does obviously not clean 'hard to reach places'. The staff reacted immediately and accurate however by tansferring uw to an other room. The hotel is mainly aiming at local guests so no European breakfast. All in all a good located hotel and not a bad choice. 

Sufficient lower middle class hotel.

I stayed here for three nights in July 2013 in a Classical Room in Building A - 6701. 

The first surprise was that they asked for the full three nights payment in advance, plus deposit, despite the reservation being backed by a credit card. Maybe tis was to stop you running away after the first night. The front desk had no English ability which meant that all communication was via my inexperienced companion.

The room had no closet - hanging space was provided by hangers on a hatstand. The room had no fridge. There was a large pillar in the middle of the room which made much of the space useless. 

However, the worst feature was the shower. There was no lip on the shower room so water ran out of the shower into the rest of the bathroom and on into the living area. This soaked the carpet. We noticed it was damp on the first evening, but it was late so we did nothing that night and put it down to some previous users carelessness. When we showered ourselves we found that the soaking was inevitable unless you operated the shower at its lowest pressure and made sure the jet pointed away from the door. We complained at the front desk but nothing was done and the suggestion that we could switch rooms was shrugged off. In addition, whatever setting you used for hot/cold the water temperature varied from cold to boiling in about 30 second cycles.

Yes - it is close to the South Gate, but there is metro construction in between so it's not walkable.

Don't stay here unless you're desperate.
