After reading the review about the history of this hotel, I made a request with my agency to stay here. I didnt want to stay in any other normal boring 3/4 star hotels, Didnt consider the Sheraton, those 5 star hotels etc as I reckon this is Tibet, I wanted something that is authetic yet has the basic neccesities. 

Lin tsang didnt disappoint! First, I was very impressed that they were using Loccitane shampoo, soaps etc, the bed was comfortable and the place was small but absolutely lovely! Location is in the old town, you might have to walk for a while, but precisely that is because it is in the old town, I think one should enjoy visting the old town. I know there are reviews that there is no elevator and would be difficult for pple with luggages, we travelled light and the staff were friendly and helped with the luggages so it was not a problem. 

Wifi is strong in the lobby but can be weak at times in the room, but hey you are in Lhasa! To make do without the WIFI and enjoy being at the rooftop of the world! Breakfast was alright, we did try the Yak butter milk, but maybe because it was too early, the staff were surprised and the coffee machine were not working. The breakfast area being on ground floor was quite dim, I personally prefered the breakfast at Shambalah palace, but hey nothing is perfect! And since it was just breakfast, I didnt let it damper my mood! Food was basic toast with jam, one really shouldnt be expecting a full set of western breakfast given that you are in Tibet. So it is decent. 

In short, it was a good stay and I am glad I choose it, but what surprised me was when leaving, they gave us a souvenier, a little token and a blessed scarf! It may be pricey, but I would say its about 800 rmb and for this price, I will rather stay at Lingtsang than at the sheraton etc.

True Tibetian style with Modern Ammenities

we slept 4 nights in august 2012 in this hotel in the right centre of lhasa.
the hotel is very very very nice, totally tibetan, rooms and bathrooms very beautiful and confortable.
the terrace is fantastic.
the only problem is the breakfast room that is not very clean and stinky.
they should make some efforts in order to renovate this room and clean it very well, sometimes open the window.

very nice authentic tibetan hotel

We were here for 2 nights stay and the location of the hotel seems perfect. It was a little on an expensive side, compared to the other hotels in the stretch. Food was okay, we used the restaurants outside. The only good thing was the rooms were cozy, clean and quiet. I would recommend it

In the land of history!

We stayed for 5 nights during Christmas season last year. Our interest of this hotel was the history behind it. We have been told once a living Buddha (活佛) had lived there. We requested for the room where the living Buddha had once stayed in; with ample sunlight to enjoy the warmth of winter since no central heating system was provided. What we liked the most was the entire building which still retained the traditional Tibetan styled designed (see photos, spacious room and bathroom). In our room, the standing shower did not work well -- water was leaking and the shower head had water spraying in different directions but not on you! Do check with the staff when taking a shower where you may end up taking a freezing shower halfway through with no hot water supply!
Bad experience was on our 3rd night with no electricity supply in our room for that night! But Tsering, the hotel operator and staff were very helpful and, got us another room for the night.  The service was another plus factor -- warm friendly staff with a smile. Since hotel is located in a side street (was dim in the night) off the main road; the staff were attentive and would look out for anyone who walked through their interesting Tibetan traditional main door on 24/7 basis. That was another plus factor for security.
All in all, it was quite an adventure for the experience though I may not return to stay again as it was pricey even during the winter period.

Nice but pricey

We were booked to stay at this lovely-looking boutique hotel for 4 nights this coming summer.   We were looking forward to experiencing this hotel, the gorgeous rooms and the traditional Tibetan designs.   And we were happy to hear that the owner was Tibetan.

However, we just learned that the Lingtsang Hotel was taken over by a new owner.  The new owner has significantly increased the room rates.   The new owner will not honor our reservation at the rate that was quoted and confirmed by the previous owner.   There are ethics in the hospitality industry but apparently not here.

We are very disappointed but have vowed to not give this place our money.  We will not be staying here.
