My wife and I stayed at the Yi De hotel in August 2011. We booked on Ctrip and the process was pretty easy. We arrived early in the am and it was understandable that our room wasn't ready yet (it was 7am). We lounged in their dining area, had breakfast and used their free wifi. Per previous reviews, yes the coffee is expensive but so was the rest of Pingyao (I dont know why). Also per previous reviews, the chinese breakfast is much better value than the western breakfast. While it's true there are many period hotels and guest homes in the area, most overdo it with cheesy gold and red ornaments, etc. Think western style chinese restaurant. The Yi De is more zen like - simple design with clean lines. From a service perspective they had comprehensible english and was professional. I would highly recommend the Yi De hotel.
