This hostel is the most beautiful place to stay when in Mostar. Majda is a wonderful caring hostage, anytime there to answer all your questions. We had the breakfast at morning and enjoyed the Bosnian way to start the morning a lot. 

Please make sure to join the walking tour with Bata! It’s an experience that will touch your heart, since he will teach you a lot of his beautiful country with all his tragedy but also bravery. Never missing to keep you happy and smiling, while showing you the best places.

Extended my stay because I did not want to leave, from the moment you arrive, you feel at home! Incredibly clean. Madja is so lovely and makes the most amazing breakfast every morning. You absolutely must do Bata’s tour, I felt so privileged to learn from him and listen to his experiences. This is honestly the best hostel I have ever been to.

Most amazing hostel I’ve ever been too

The best hostel I have ever stayed at. It’s a family that runs the hostel and they are one of the most welcoming, nice, beautiful people I’ve ever met. The hostel itself has a very warm and a good atmosphere and they offer a full day tour for a very good price that will break your heart. Hearing their story about what happened in Bosnia before and during the war and even after the war. It is crazy how they can show so much love and care about people even though they’ve been through something no one should ever have to go through. I wanted to write a review on hostelworld too but for some reason it is not working. Thank you for the amazing experience, for the everyday breakfast, for being so kind and helpful and showing so much hospitality. Thank you Majdas, Bata, Miki and everyone else. I will definitely come back to Mostar one day and I hope I’ll see you some day soon. Keep being so loving and beautiful, you have so much to give to this world. Take care of yourselves! Best hostel in the world

My friends staying in the room beside me were asked to leave this hostel at 4am, because they brought another person into the hostel. They apologised repeatedly and admitted their mistake but were told they had to pack and leave immediately.

I went in my pyjamas and asked Madja why they were asked to leave. I was told that I was disturbing the peace and I had 5m to pack my bags and also leave the hostel, despite the fact my travel companion remained asleep in our room.

When I tried to return to my room, I was physically shoved away and threatened by the male employee working there. I was told the police had been called. Eventually her employee had to be restrained. This was witnessed by around 8 other guests who had woken up and were protesting my treatment, but Madja would not budge. I was to leave. 

As a result, myself and two friends (1 male and 2 females, 22 yrs old) were left in our pyjamas on the streets of Mostar with no place to go and no data/calling minutes (as is common in Bosnia for travellers).

To put me in that position as a young, vulnerable woman who does not speak the language nor has any way to contact family/find help is unacceptable. 

Madja told me she would show us somewhere else we could stay, but she did not follow through on this promise. To not offer us alternative options left us stranded and showed no concern for our well being. 

I understand that breaching hostel rules is unfair to other guests, and that the rules are clearly stated around the hostel. Nevertheless, it was a gross breach of host responsibility and care. We door knocked around the area looking for another place to stay for 1.5 hours, with great difficulty as everything was fully booked for the red bull cliff diving. 

I would expect more from an establishment that is so highly reviewed as a professional and reputable hostel. 
No where was it made clear in the rules that to bring in guests would result in immediate expulsion.

kicked out of hostel at 4am in my pyjamas

I have never written a bad review before but this will be my first as I feel obliged to warn anyone to never stay in an establishment that treats their customers so horribly. 

We were forced out of our beds at 3am and onto the streets. Because we had a friend visit (we weren’t aware of this rule & when asked to leave he did so without hesitation). We were told to pack in 10 mins & police were being called, despite our full cooperation. 

Another girl got out of bed to ask why we were being removed - they then told her to pack and get out as well. The male host physically shoved this girl. 8 people were woken up during this and witnessed this situation and all of them objected to how this event was being handled. In fact all of them crossed their names off the “famous tour” the next day as they didn’t want to be on a bus with this man. 

Majdas and this man were intimidating/aggressive and left us alone on the street at 3am - they were so terrible and I could not believe they were so unreasonable. Even if we had made a mistake we solved it as soon as they asked us too - there was no need to call police and no need for the massive over reaction.

We asked for a safe place to stay: they physically pushed a young girl, they threw us out on the streets at 3am with no access to internet, we speak no Bosnian and on the busiest weekend of the year. Being young females thrown out to spend the night on the streets I think they failed to provide a safe environment. We walked for an hour an a half before we found somewhere that had room for us. 

Considering how all of us completely obliged to the frankly stupid requests we saw no need for any of the actions they took. Many people in the hostel saw what happened and were all offering us support. We were not in any way unreasonable or disrespectful and the way this whole situation escalated was honestly just confusing.

I have never seen people be treated so poorly - they should consider getting new staff because these Madja and this man were the worst hosts I could imagine.

Physically shoved by staff and forced onto the streets at 3am

Hmm where do I begin. I find it baffling that this hostel and the tour has so many amazing reviews.
First of all it isnt a hostel vibe its like Majdas house/weird commune vibe. Majdas and the other staff are invasive and burst in and out of your room, doesnt matter if its 7am or midnight. If you are still in bed at 9:30 they will make you get up. It felt like you were a guest in their house and thus didn't have your own space if you wanted to be left alone. Majda at times came off as hostile. The tour is something else and not in a good way. The first 90 minutes we sat on the side of the road in a boiling hot van with no air conditioning while Bata berated our group, he would ask a lot of questions and if you got the answer wrong he would shame you in front of everyone so nobody wanted to answer his questions. This I have never experienced on any tour before and it really felt more like being punished in school by a teacher than trying to learn about their local history on a tour. Before we left Mostar he asked us (in all seriousness) a good 4-5 times if anyone wanted to get off the tour now before it started and he will give their money back (he must do this from experience). I was feeling already uncomfortable by his brash and abrasive personality but was too shy to do anything about it. Bata mocked us for wearing our seatbelts yet then drove like an absolute maniac which no one in the group enjoyed.. He constantly slammed on the brakes as a joke so that we would all lunge forward - very unprofessional. He then seemed frustrated that our group wasn't crazy enough for him and kept saying normally Australians are a lot more fun than this ... Sorry we didn't live up to your standards Bata! The tour starts late at 11am and goes way too late in the evening until 10:30-11pm. This is a ploy to force you into spending another night at their hostel. I would prefer it start at 8am and finish at a reasonable hour. It also was dragged out way too long and could have been done in 7 or so hours not 11-12. We saw another tour poster from a nearby hostel which saw more sites in less time and included lunch. If you struggle with people that are super in your face and overbearing do not do this tour. Bata also was creepy around the girls in their bathing suits at the waterfall and when helping them climb up and down the wall at the ruins. Was counting down the minutes to be off this tour.. Avoid 

Not my cup of tea

This is hands down the best hostel I've ever been to. The place just feels like home. The beds are heavenly. The bathrooms are immaculately clean. The breakfast is made with care and love. And the story of the place will just bring tears to your eyes. So inspiring. I recommend without even a hint of reservation.

The only perfect score I've ever given a place I've stayed

No dobts , this is one of the best hostels I ever stayed in . I felt very very homy since I got there . Mhyda and staff are extremely helpful and the hostel environment was amazing , bata's tour completely worths it , as they say, is not only a tour . Rooms are quite big and comfy. Very well clean , besides an amazing breakfast . Going to mostar and staying in this hostel will make you have a magical time there .

WOW! Majdas hostel was truly a gem during my visit to Mostar. Majda, the owner, cooks a marvelous homemade breakfast for all the guests every morning. Her & Mickey, one of the receptionists, made sure to learn everyone’s names. It really felt like a cozy little home! When visiting, DEFINITELY stay at least three nights so you can take a tour with Majda’s brother, Bata. He’s an outgoing, wonderful person who is very passionate about the local history! He’s also loud & crazy- he’ll tell you this himself- so it makes for a very fun time. I know I definitely gave him a bit of a hard time on the tour since I love history- I kept beating him to the punchlines! Bata’s tour is definitely worth visiting Mostar for, and I’d return in a heartbeat for Majda’s warm smile and wonderful cooking!
