Lower Dover

Lower Dover was the highlight of my trip in Belize, and so far within Central America. Maddy and Bill have created an oasis here where you can spend your days trekking in the jungle, exploring Mayan ruins that are still being uncovered, explore the property with one of their dogs who are the best and swim in the river in between it all, keeping you nice and cool. I stayed in the dorms, they were spacious with the bathroom separated from the beds, a seperate change room that doubled as somewhere to dry swimmers etc and big lockers. The solar-powered, rainwater showers were also a luxury. There’s an outdoor bar, and plenty of spaces to just hang out. The ATM caves were close by, Maddy booked my trip and we were one of the first in which was great. The location isn’t too far from San Ignacio and it was easy to get the local bus into town. The family style dinners were a highlight, with big portions of healthy meals dished up every night, after weeks of travel this kind of food was needed! It was also a great way to meet others staying at Lower Dover and many interesting conversations came about. If I make it back to Belize I will certainly be staying again.
