Stadtalm

This tiny hostel/café/restaurant is quite an unusual place to stay, perched high on a hill with unbeatable panoramic views over central Salzburg. Certainly unique. There are only a handful of rooms but as a 4-person family staying one night, we were able to book a dorm-style room (normally accommodating 6) to ourselves. Room was basic but perfectly serviceable, with a fantastic view. Shared washrooms that were clean and appeared to be recently refurbished. Things to be aware of: - It's hostel-style accommodation. Bring towels, soap etc. - Take the lift by the modern museum to get up the mountain if you can (watch the opening hours), and walk from there (there's a path, although rucksacks would be better than suitcases). It's not as easy as it might be to find. - As there is a (small) restaurant, it can be noisy until relatively late. As a family with children of 7 and 9 years old, it wasn't a major problem for us, being the summer, but it's something to be aware of. - Limited/basic breakfast and serving times - As it's slightly out of the way, it may not be the best place if you are in a rush. - If you're travelling by car, there is underground parking in the mountain more or less directly under the hostel (still takes a while to get from there, outside, find the lift, and walk to the hostel though)
