The cabin we rented at El Puesto Sur was exactly what the description called for - rustic furnishings, modeled after the cabins typical of the estancias in the area, small, cozy and comfortable. If you are looking for a generic "Best Western-type" experience, this is not for you (and neither is Patagonia). Our group of five spent 4 nights at El Puesto Sur and loved our time there. All of the arrangements were made ahead of time on-line with one of the owners named Liz who was an excellent communicator and speaks English. On-site, the cabins are managed by her brother and sister-in-law, Alejandra and Omar who are lovely and very friendly and accommodating. They live on the property so are accessible most of the day. Their English is limited so expect to use your Spanish. The cabins have a basic kitchen with a two burner propane stove and small refrigerator so we were able to make simple pasta dishes and keep our beer cold. The breakfast is exactly as described (bread/jam/butter/coffee/milk/tea) so if you want eggs, you can buy them and cook them yourself - which we did.  The coffee provided is instant which we found all over Argentina and Chile and was actually quite good. There is a daily cleaning service which we passed up expect for garbage pick up and clean towels. The Cabins were a perfect basecamp for hikes in the area. Alejandra arranged for a shuttle transport to a trail head north of town so we could complete a loop hike back into town. She arranged for an early pick up for our group of five and we paid her directly. If you don't speak Spanish, you can probably set this up with Liz ahead of time but don't count on email while you are there since there is no  reliable internet access anywhere in El Chlatén due to excessive demand on the system. Lastly, expect to use cash exclusively in El Chalén so come prepared. Keep your expectations realistic and you will have a great experience. We would definitely return to El Puesto Sur!

Cozy, comfortable cabins in El Chalten.

Based on other reviews we booked this place.  Overall it is OK.  Alejandra was very helpful in finding us a bus to El Calafate late in the day after our trekking at Viedma glacier.  She also exchanged money for us at very reasonable rate.

The only problem was the breakfast.  It was kind of misleading when the ad says breakfast was included, or may be our expectation was high.  It turned out there was a small loaf of bread, some jam and butter, and a quart of milk; so each of the four of us had one slice of bread.

The kitchen has no silverware whatsoever.  May be we should have asked Alejandra but we did not.

So so place

the four of us stayed in a two bedroom cabana (cabin) with full kitchen.  The man owner doesn't speak great English, but was very helpful and friendly.  We had great views of the mountains, and were able to walk everywhere, even with all luggage.  
He recommended an Argentinian restaurant nearby where we got 10% off for mentioning his name (he works there part time).
The bedrooms and bathroom were clean, and a cleaning lady came by each day.
Breakfast was fresh homemade bread by the woman owner, butter, jam, coffee.
Wifi strength was good, but internet connection is very poor for the entire town, because they rely on satellites which don't do well in the wind, which blows strong all the time.
Note: there are no banks in El Chalten, only one ATM which is at the bus station, at the entrance of the town.
In Argentina, it's best to bring lotsa US$ cash!!!  That's how you get the best exchange rates!  (we found this out too late)

We spent 5 nights at El Puesto Sur this past February 2013.  as previous rewiers have commented the cabins were basic but adequate.  The breakfast was real simple of a fresh loaf of bread with jam, butter and milk which was deliveryed the previous nightl. 
The owner was pleasent and helpful.

We had a three night stay in El Chalten in March 2012. The cabin was cosy and well appointed. Nothing fancy but everything worked. Great centre for hiking up to the mirador and then on to Lago Torre which we duly did and got soaked for our troubles. Even in the rain though, the glaciated scenery and the Magellanic forest is well worth the effort. And when the sun comes out, which it eventually did, well, the place is just awesome. El Chalten really deserves more time and I'm looking forward to getting back sometime. Condor watching tip: The car park at the roadside viewpoint to the south of the town is a brilliant place to watch the condors rise in the morning. They seem to use the bottleneck of the gorge to rise up towards Fitzroy. Enjoy!
