We picked Bahodir B&B for the location (right on Registan square) and were happily surprised by a very friendly, smiling and caring staff (who could speak English and help us around - not that easy still in UZ). The en-suite was quite large, with hot water and blankets (we went in December so that was important). They felt we might need extra heat for the children with negative temperatures at night and brought an additional heater without us asking. But the best part was the great breakfast with incredibly fresh homemade breads and jams, hot tea, fruits, eggs and potatoes every morning. We really enjoyed our stay there!

Perfect location, great breakfast, great staff

A brilliant place right in the heart of Old Samarkand. Cheap, old school wooden rooms, spacious, with a leafy courtyard and friendly staff. Can't recommend this place highly enough for budget travelers.

Great place

This family-run guesthouse is wonderful. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. You are treated to tea and snacks when you arrive, and then a delicious breakfast. The rooms are clean and have character (meaning it's not a modern, Western-style room). The location is great, you can walk to anywhere in the center easily.

B&b Bahodir is not a b&b, it s a house. It s not any house, it s your house. Everything is so relaxing, cosy, comfortable, and people are so sweet and friendly, that you feel like you are part of a family. You can relax in the quiet court inside while drinking a good tea offered by the house, or you can go out and explore the registan that is at 2mins walking distance. Everything will be memorable. Definitely a place to suggest

Your house in samarkand

We stayed at the Bahodir B&B for four nights with our four children in August 2018. The owner's son and family were extremely welcoming and ensured we had a comfortable room - even discounting the rate to $10/night when asked! The breakfasts were hearty and tea and watermelon were available throughout the day. The location is EXCELLENT - you will not find better in Samarkand. However, the hostel is a little ramshackle, it has character and we loved it but if you are a fussy traveller and expect Western European standards, this is not the place for you!

Four nights as a family of six

This is a family-run hotel where quite a few family members could speak English.

However, the standard of the room and bathroom was a bit rough, and cleanliness doubtful. The carpet felt dusty underfoot.

The room assigned to me had windows looking into the courtyard but the dining tables of the courtyard were placed right up to the windows, which had only voile curtains. So, noise and privacy was an issue. 

The mattress was very hard. There were 3 power points for charging. Wifi was OK most times though it got very slow in the evenings. The lighting was adequate but could be brighter. There was a desk, which was appreciated. 

There was no fridge, no safe, nor was drinking water or daily cleaning provided. I am just stating these as information and facts, not as complaints, because for a room in this price bracket, I did not expect it to have these things. However, what was notable was that the room did not have an airconditioner, only a fan, so in summer it may prove very uncomfortable. Nor did the room have any visible heater for the colder months.

The bathroom was substandard. Although the porcelain fixtures were OK, they need to re-do the plumbing, and provide a hand-held shower head. The space for showering was too narrow, with the plastic curtain often sticking to you when wet (and you wonder if the curtain is clean). Dirt was accumulating in the corners of the bathroom. However, water pressure was good, hot water came through after a while and drainage was good. 

Bath towels were a shock: very old, worn and off-coloured.

Breakfast was OK (bread, eggs, rice, yogurt, cheese) though compared poorly with other hotels in the same price category. Those other hotels had a bigger selection. 

The location of Bahodir however was fantastic. It was only about 200 metres from the main pedestrian avenue and 300 metres from Registan. Along the pedestrian avenue are cafes, restaurants and shops, although rather touristy. 

The impression I have is that this started life as a cheap hostel where backpackers wanted the "authentic" (read: ramshackle, rough-it-out) experience. But as Bahodir tries to go into the B&B category, its bad habits regarding standards and cleanliness are proving to be an obstacle.

Overall, not the best value compared to others in the same price bracket.

Very good location, but the place needs to be cleaned and overhauled

I booked a room for my parents in this hotel. They hated it. The rooms are very dirty as well as the bedsheets. The mattresses were very hard. The first night they even didn’t managed to sleep because of the drunken motorcyclist. Don’t recommend it at all!

I think owners want juste take yours dollars, just yours dollars. They forgot that they give an image of their country and what's their job.

Just there for yours $

It is a pity to see such lovely and welcoming people run a badly tended hostel. We were welcomed with watermelon and tea by our host but became very disenchanted as we entered the room : the beds were okay for the price you pay but the bathroom was really dirty and the toilet had clearly not be cleaned. There was no air conditioning which made it painful to sleep.
We have traveled in various hostels before and some were as old as Bahodir (it was one of the first hostel) but the owner needs to renovate it badly to have at least the basics. It is clearly not worth 13$ / personnbut way below.
Regarding food, breakfast was okay.
