Had a lovely stay here recently, the staff were really great and very friendly, even allowing me to stay in my room later than the official check-out time as I was getting ready for a wedding. The room itself could have been a little cleaner and one of the lamps by the bed didn't work, but overall it was perfectly fine and more than clean enough for rooms above a pub :) The bed was wonderfully comfortable and I had one of the best nights sleep I've had in a while (especially after driving 7 hours to get there!). Breakfast the next morning was included in the price for the night, with a selection of both continental style and cooked options, my full English came out within 15/20 minutes of ordering and I had a proper, cafetière coffee. Very pleased and would definitely stay again if I'm back in the Lakes!

Lovely stay night before a wedding in Coniston

Stopped here overnight walking the Cumbrian Way. Fantastic place, great food, helpful and friendly staff, very clean and comfortable rooms, would recommend to all.

We went here 2 nights in a row, it was that good. The service is fantastic, a special mention to Will (Saturday night) and Anna (Sunday night) who couldn’t have done enough for us over the two nights. 
Our first night was dinner for 5 and our second was dinner for 10. Anna moved things around to fit us all in at very short notice which was brilliant.

And the food! Every meal was excellent, great quality, great portion size and proper home-cooked food. I can thoroughly recommend the steak pie and the sausage and mash.

Don’t hesitate to go here.

Excellent service and amazing food!

The room was warm, clean and cosy, comfy bed, bath towels a bit small, had a room with mountain view of Dow Crag & Coniston all be it a little restricted, the food was very good in the evening & the breakfast had  a great choice and very tasty, staff were very friendly and helpful, it was a very peacful place to stay quiet at night no noise from other rooms will defo stay again it has been one of our better choices

Cosy warm room with a little mountain view

Always nice to stay here staff friendly and food is very good especially the Sunday lunch. The shepherds huts are perfect everything you need for a relaxing break nice touch with the dressing gowns so we can get to and from hot tub. Ideally situated for walking don’t have to use car if you don’t want to.

Perfect relaxing break

We stayed in one of the onsite apartments, Herdwick. It was modern, comfortable and cosy. Well equipped kitchen and lovely shower room. The hot tub was perfect for soothing the muscles after a day of walking.
We ate both breakfast and evening meals in the restaurant. All food was freshly cooked and well presented. The range of real ales was impressive as was the wine list.
The adjoining deli served perfect snacks for our walks.
The staff were all very attentive and the name badges gave a personal touch. We will be back to stay on one of the Shephers huts or perhaps a glamping pod next time.

Great location, great place

This was a bit of a sudden decision as we noticed the excellent rate. Booked Saturday and stayed Monday, room nice and clean, bathroom a little small but OK.  It was a twin room, and my bed was a bit soft for me but ok. We ate in the bar in the evening, excellent tasty food and great knowledge of gluten free procedures. (I’m Coeliac), another great bonus was a gluten free beer on hand pump in the bar - this may have lead to me having one more than was absolutely wise! Excellent breakfast ( no sausages or black pudding for me) perfect fried egg and perfectly fried a bacon just a little crispy. Will stay again without hesitation.

Comfortable room and great dinner and breakfast.

Stayed on the motorhome site for two night.  Ehu and Elsan, no showers but pub toilets when open.
Nice quiet spot, ideal for walks to Conniston. 
Pub food excellent   good sized portions, friendly helpful staff will definitely stay again

Lovely stay

Another lovely stay in the herdwick apartment, lovely comfortable apartment great for relaxing after a long day out in the mountains. Really well equipped for catering for yourselves or if you dont want to bother you can eat in the pub.Not a major issue but the only thing that i would say is it needs the sign putting back up for  parking space as a couple of times when we came back we couldn't park due to customers of pub parked in the space for the apartment.

Absolute gem of a place, had 2 nights here, room was spot on, really clean and quirky - yes we has the one with the big bath - my partner loved it!!! food really good, service and all the staff were really friendly, polite and helpful, girls behind the bar were attentive and customer focused, a breath of fresh air in this day and age.
the pub and outside areas have had a lot of investment and a lot of thought gone into it - and it shows, will definitely come here again.
