Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa

Although the weather on the night of arrival was atrocious, it didn’t detract from the stunning surroundings of Lake Vyrnwy, but I would say that perhaps the entrance turning could be better lit to help on nights like it was. Car was particularly well lit and because of the weather we found it difficult parking our car and never saw the disabled parking bays but that was our error, checking in was easy and straight forward and helped by some very enthusiastic staff, who gave us directions to our room and explained where and how to get to the lift and where the facilities were. On arrival in our room we found it to be well proportioned, comfy and full of the extras you would expect, but the satisfaction of having such a good room was surpassed the next morning by the view from our room over looking the Lake, if only we could wake up to that every morning. As bad as it was on the night of arrival the next day was clear and we even experienced some sun, and over a well presented and served breakfast we experienced the joys of over looking the magnificent Lake Vyrnwy again, and the morning staff assured us we would have a good day ahead, local knowledge I guess. After a very tasty and filling breakfast we made our way out of the hotel to explore the lake itself, and we weren’t to be disappointed, we first made our way to Rhiwagor Waterfalls, and found the falls to be breathtaking and spectacular and my wife and I spent some time admiring the location, landscape and sheer force of the waterfall in full flow. We then continued our way around the lake stopping at many viewing points around before we stopped off for coffee and very tasty homemade scone in Artisans Cafe, which is right by a RSPB bird hide which even in the short time we spent there viewed many birds, after our pit stop we made our way to the dam and experienced the fantastic views from above, both sides and even in front where you are able to take in the full scale of it. We then had to make our way back to the Hotel and Spa, which we had booked . We spent the rest of the afternoon in the spa enjoying ourselves in the jacuzzi/hot tub, steam room and sauna and fully reward and relaxing late afternoon, before retiring to our room to get ready for our evening meal. Again as with breakfast we thoroughly enjoyed the evening meal and the staff were all very attentive and helpful, even though the red was quite busy. We retired after the meal to the bar where we continued to enjoy ourselves infringe of a log fire which was well stoked up by the bar staff as it had been done the previous night, giving you such a homely feel. We had a second good night sleep , but unfortunately we were so lucky the next day with the weather and we couldn’t enjoy the same views as on our first morning, but this didn’t take away the good feel factor. After another tasty and enjoyable breakfast we returned to our room and sadly had to check out and make our way home back to south Wales , but a birthday I had.
