Clean and tidy rooms, bedding provided and very nice dinner and breakfast. The beds have their own plug sockets and bed lights. Shower pressure is excellent and plenty of hot water. The staff were very politely and helpful as well

Impressed with this hostel

We came here as part of a group hike and the accomodation and food provided was excellent. 

The rooms were clean and comfortable, showers were hot and actually powerful. 

The staff were friendly throughout. Highly recommend!

Great place to stay, friendly staff

Perfectly situated at the top of Portland for exploring the peninsula. Great value, very clean, and really friendly. Can't fault a great stay here. Thanks to Claire for accommodating the 19 people we came down with!

Friendly, comfortable & great location

I've stayed here three times now, in the female dorm (room 3) which has lovely views from the bay window. 

The beds are standard YHA bunks, the duvets and pillows are good and the rooms are clean. The toilets and showers were also clean, and I've never had to queue to use them.

There's a well equipped self catering kitchen, and they also provide evening meals and breakfast if you don't want to cook for yourself. There is also a small shop selling beers and basic provisions and souvenirs. 

There's parking on site, and the staff were happy for me to leave car there after checkout will I went to the castle nearby. 

The staff have always been friendly and welcoming, and were keen to give me directions to attractions in the local area. 

I'd recommend this YHA for a short break to a lovely part of the country, and I'll be back again next year. 



Good value at lovely hostel

This is a very good venue, clean, well equipped and good beds.

Members of staff are very welcoming. 

Nothing to complain about, very good value for money. 

Will stay again in the future without hesitation. 

Great value for money

Very friendly and helpful staff. Fairly clean shared facilities. Camping spots available. BBQ area. Good parking. Good location for local attractions and the mainland. Spacious dormitories. Large dining room. 

Friendly staff

I really like Portland YHA and you may even snatch a bargain rate e.g. my friend stayed for a 3rd night for only £13.  It's even cheaper to camp there and there's a lovely grassed area at the back of the hostel, with barbecue and wash-up facilities.  The showers inside are great and the staff are friendly.  The breakfast looked good or you can self-cater/get takeaways and eat in the large dining room - all high cielings and some nice paintings.  Take ear-plugs in case you have to share a room with a snorer and I didn't see a tv anywhere - didn't miss it either.  There were some interesting books to read and you may spend a lot of time in the useful drying room if the weather is wet.  There's even a swimming beach nearby but as I was only there for two nights I didn't get a chance to try it.  

A bargain place to stay on a really interesting "island", great for walkers and explorers and stone sculpture lovers.

Basic and good accommodation. Clean & unexpectedly quiet. Beds very clean and comfortable. Cheerful and friendly staff. A great first time visit to Portland YHA.. Nice outside spaces, we we not camping but the camping area was sloping rather than level ground.
A good base to explore Weymouth and the surrounding areas.Overall great !!

YHA Portland

Stayed for 2 nights so we could visit the local area. Room 2 is about 2m x 5m, has four bunk beds, a sink, a stool and a little table, so it was cramped for just 2 people. 

It's a noisy place with hard floors in the corridors and on the stairs, and there appears to be staff accommodation upstairs judging by the noise through the night. We got little sleep in 2 nights.

It's a bit dated and grotty in place, Room 2 is like something out of the 1980s. You can only get away with this kind of accommodation if you call it a hostel. Possibly the worst accommodation I have stayed in.

Very poor value for money.

Stay 1 night to explore around Portland. arrived early before reception opened, but luckly there was a person there who was grt giving us infomation & local map. Fab place to start hike around whole of Portland. Has everything  needed in Kitchen, receptionists  very welcoming and informative. Good hot showers. Did not eat at their restaurant  so cant comment, but would definitely  recommend
