A great central location, close to entertainment venues, such as Utility Arena and O2 City Hall. Lots of good bars and restaurants close by and great central high street shopping. We love Premier Inn, the rooms are so clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and very friendly and a great breakfast. We are never let down.

Excellent Central stay

We’ve stayed in quite a few Premier Inns and this one wasn’t quite to the standard in every aspect we’ve been used to.

It’s a lovely historic building, an Art Deco style ex Co-op store converted, not too much of the original remains but a beautiful Art Deco staircase.  We were right at the back of the building so took a long time to walk from the lifts, not a problem in itself and often this means a quieter room. Unfortunately we backed onto a multi-storey car park, although not too much noise from that thankfully- pretty awful view though.  The main noise however came from someone nearby putting out glass recycling at midnight- 3 separate times 5 minutes apart. That woke us up.  There’s lots of bars surrounding this hotel so could’ve been any one of them.

Cleanliness wasn’t as spot on as it normally is and bathroom grouting was mouldy, I scraped at it with my fingernail and it came away so shouldn’t be too difficult to remove.  

Breakfast was good and everything you’d expect from a Premier Inn, nice friendly staff too.

Shame about the negative points as overall it’s an okay enough hotel. 

An okay stay but not the best Premier Inn

I booked 2 rooms at premier inn Newcastle city centre ( the gate) for Friday 17th & Saturday 18th February, I was informed on Friday at 15:00 that my flight from Bristol airport to Newcastle airport was cancelled due to storm Otto , I informed the premier inn at 15:30 that my flight was cancelled and we would be flying up Saturday afternoon , the receptionist took all the details and informed me the system had been updated , when we arrived Saturday late afternoon we were informed our rooms had been sold to new customers as we had been classed as no shows , they could not offer any new rooms as hotel full and did not offer to find any further accommodation, we were left to find our own accommodation at our own cost and informed we would need to contact customer relations on Monday from 09:00 , terrible service , I will not be booking with premier inn again , be aware , premier inn will not reimburse us for our extra expense , even though I have evidence of calling the hotel   

Hotel room sold to another customer

Stayed one night due to hospital visit at Royal Victoria, which is just 10mins walk away. Everything is so close to this Premier Inn as it's bang in the middle of the city. Easy 5 min walk from the station, Eldon Square for shopping is literally over the road, and all other shops within easy walking distance plus loads of places to eat in the evening, whatever type of food takes your fancy. The football stadium is a 10min walk and the university is also nearby if you're up visiting the kids while they're studying here. Great to find a hotel that is so central to everything you could want.
The building is fabulous as it's old and quaint but certainly not dated in terms of comfort and space as my room was huge with all the necessary amenities; comfy bed, clean bathroom and hot shower. Only issue could possibly be noise from the street on a weekend night as I did hear some drunken singing in the early hours (I was on the 2nd floor) but not enough to disturb my sleep too much. Staff at reception were friendly and, most useful for me, there was somewhere to leave my case between checking out and catching my train in the afternoon. I'd definitely stay here again. 

Everything you need within walking distance

Staff polite, friendly and helpful.
Rooms tired looking, carpets and bedding stained.
Sealed window unit that cannot open, air conditioning didn’t work lead to uncomfortable hot sleepless night.
Because of not very clean room, dust everywhere didn’t sample the food.
Lots of work contractors use this hotel.

Underwhelmed

well worth the money. Room was clean and warm. Not far from Xmas market. Booked the meal deal which was great value. Limited choice without paying a little extra but food was very good. Breakfast buffet was excellent and staff at the Bar and Blok were great. Will probably book again for next year

1 night for xmas market

I've stayed here a number of times, as it's convenient for St James's Park being literally 5 minutes walk from the stadium...and if booked far enough in advance is cheap and great value for money.

The venue is also handy for the retail therapy lovers of us, not far from the many drinking establishments  and about 20 minutes walk from the station (depending how long your legs are!) and have left luggage facility too.

Being an old CO-OP the building itself is very solid with. surprisingly, very little noise, with a restaurant that offers an unlimited All You Can Eat Breakfast option

However, the place looks as though it could do with a deep clean...it's not disgustingly dirty, just showing signs of its age. The worst crime is that in one of the lifts, I discovered that, upon my arrival, some filthy animal had attached some chewing gum to a picture frame in the lift. It was still there the next day, so pointed it out to the receptionist when I departed and checked out the next day. I was told 'it would be dealt with'

When I went to collect my luggage 6 hours later I checked the lift and picture frame, and the gum was still firmly attached. Clearly, nothing was done about it...not very hygienic!



Great Location For St James'sPark..and shopping!

Excellent stay. Had a premier plus room . Large very clean room. Good sound proofing from outside noise. Staff friendly. Had the meal deal. Evening meal and breakfast excellent served in the adjoining Bar and Block steak restaurant. Will definitely staff here each time we visit Newcastle 

Excellent hotel

Just visited this premier inn for a night out in Newcastle. Fantastic location close to everything you want.Discounted car parking to.
Reception at checking in was very good quick  and informative. 
The room does need a slight upgrade but was furnished to the premier inn style.
Didn't have a meal in the adjoining Restaurant but the bar staff serving drinks were very attentive and pleasant.

Very Good

Great rooms with heat control. Breakfast was good apart from hard eggs and greasy bacon. Rest of breakfast was good.

Plenty of choice with continental and cooked.
