First off, this establishment is operating as a B&B/guest house, not a hotel, despite being in that category on TripAdvisor. I've seen the owner agree with this in replies to other reviews. Bear this in mind and you shouldn't be too disappointed. 

Hudson's Restaurant doesn't seem to be operating any more, despite still being advertised on the exterior signage and in the room's welcome folder. What we ate of the full English breakfast on offer was delicious though, and served quickly. There was also cereal and juice to dig into if desired.

The building itself has some lovely period features (ceiling mouldings, coving, bannisters etc.), especially in the dining area where you eat breakfast, and you can tell the owners have tried to keep the Edwardian theme going throughout the building with contemporary photos on the walls, and various antiques dotted around.

Unfortunately, we were left slightly disappointed with the room itself (we were in number 3). It still has a lovely Edwardian fireplace, along with the high, ornate ceiling and some items of furniture that certainly look old. The bed linen was sparkling white and the double bed was fairly comfortable and gave a decent night's sleep, despite a slightly lumpy mattress and the bed frame needing a tighten up. Overall the room felt a bit drab though, let down by the green wood-chip wallpaper and stained carpet. 

The ensuite seems to have been integrated into the room with a partitioning wall at some point in the 1960s-1970s, and still features bathroom fixtures and fittings from that era, which are looking pretty tired and a bit grubby in places, though everything still works. It's just a shame there are rather a lot of black mould spots on the ceiling (difficult to reach I imagine with it being so high), and also some evidence of mould in the grout and around the bath. It could really do with modernising in there, and this could still be done sympathetically to the Edwardian theme.

We couldn't get the TV working in the room, though this didn't bother us too much as the WiFi is superb and we were able to stream something on the iPad without any difficulty. This would have been mentioned on leaving, however we were ushered out pretty quickly after settling up, so didn't get the opportunity. Hopefully Rowena the owner will see this and look into it.

For £60 a night including breakfast, a stay here does offer good value for money, as long as you don't mind a slightly spooky old building (especially when arriving after dark as we did). We just left feeling that the place needs some more money investing in the rooms to make it live up to its potential.

Lovely breakfast, nice host, slightly disappointing accommodation

I booked this hotel on Booking.com for 2 rooms for 4 adults.
I was contacted several days later by Rowena to be informed that there was an error in the system and unfortunately they were overbooked.

Whilst I acknowledge that she secured a booking at a different hotel as compensation, she only provided a name and a telephone number. She promised to amend the details on Booking.com but unfortunately did not follow through.

I had to call Rowena back to ask for a website for this hotel as when I googled the name she had provided, many hotels with that name came back.

I think that the Bookings process needs further refinement and the customer service when things go wrong, definitely need improvement. In light of the error on their side, Sandhurst staff definitely did not meet my expectations.

It is unfortunate as the reviews on Booking.com were really good but I can only speak about my experience.

Really disappointed

Me and my hubby spent a night at this lovely Bed nd Breakfast..after reading some of the negative reviews it was with in trepidation..but as soon as we walked through the door we wondered what these people were taking about and how very wrong they were!
Its an Edwardian villa and it has retained the original features. The owner Rowena has kept to the era and funished it in the style of that time, the decor is beautiful, the furnishings are to a high standard, linens, bedding, curtains are excellent quality even the table cloths are quaility. Attention to detail in every room.
The house was warm and welcoming.
There was a tv and a complimentary tray with a good selection of items.
We had a full english the next morning and this was very tasty with quality food.
We had a virtual check in with a full explaination from Rowena, she was very friendly and welcoming.
We both slept really well.
It was also spotlessly clean.
We wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend to others, especially if you want a refreshing change from 
"Corporate" style BnB.
All this for only £35pp inclusive of breakfast..

Fantastic stay in this quaint BnB

So, the positives: nice breakfast, friendly owners, very accommodating - letting us check in half an hour early. Clean white bedding, and a perfect location for attending a friend’s party up the road. £100 for the night including breakfast for the 4 of us.

The negatives: our room (room 3) was very tired, really dirty and had a terribly musty smell. 

The carpets, the walls, the drawers, the windowsill, the bathroom, just grubby. Whilst we were heartened to see the nice clean white hotel bedding, the mattress, pillows and duvets all smelt so it wasn’t the best night’s sleep. 

It’s a beautiful old historic building but it just needs a lot of tlc. We were really confused as we were expecting a much higher standard of accommodation for somewhere with a 4 star rating. 

In fairness to the owner, we did mention this when we checked out and she apologised, but it’s hard to believe that anyone working there could be oblivious to the issues.

Stayed here for one night with my partner whilst attending a wedding in Middlewich. The room we had (7) was bright and spacious with a lovely big bathroom. I especially liked the attention to detail with the decor throughout the property. I don’t think it’s to everyone’s taste but we love history so it was definitely to ours. You can tell that the owner has really put her heart into the decor of this B&B.

The landlady herself was attentive and helpful. We arrived whilst she was out but we were directed to our key over the phone, and our breakfast requirements were met perfectly the next day. She had quite an abrupt manner but was not once impolite or rude. Overall it was a pleasant stay and we would visit again if we were ever in the area.
