We stayed at Bramble Cottage. Cottage was nicely decorated and the location was good for walking. Not as welcoming to dog owners as expected. Paying over £500 for 3 nights specifically chosen as being dog friendly we didn’t expect on arrival to be told that our whippet was only allowed downstairs and not on any furniture. Also not impressed that on the second day we were approached by the owner (who you do see a lot of..) and berated for leaving our dog alone in the house for a couple of hours while we went shopping. She doesn’t suffer at all from separation anxiety so can only assume she was returning barks to the owners black lab who is very vocal.
So, I wouldn’t recommend if you want a home from home with your hound, if you do go then make sure you take toiletries as none provided.
I’m sure this set up will suit a lot of visitors but it definitely wasn’t for us.

Weekend break

My friend Andrea and I spent two nights here as we had booked to walk the Mighty Wye Valley Hike for Macmillan. The room was lovely and had everything we needed...We were very touched that on the morning of the walk Gillian got up just after 6am to make us coffee before we left...above and behind I would say....!

Couldn’t Fault it...

Like all the comments made before the hosts, John & Gillian made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.

We were staying for B&B although there are cottages that you can stay at. Our bedroom was very clean throughout and the bathroom has a great range of shower gels, shampoo etc. The bed was extremely comfortable.

The room itself is 'cozy' but was perfect for our stay but that is about the only fault I can find! In the morning we were welcomed with a coffee or tea waiting outside our room and the breakfast was a lovely selection of cereals, fruit and a full English if you wanted it. Nothing was too much trouble and we left breakfast feeling like we didn't need anything to eat for the rest of the day.

When we arrived back one afternoon Gillian offered afternoon tea & cake. This was an unexpected surprise and set Stowfield Barn apart from other B&Bs. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and would come back again.

A lovely B&B getaway

We stayed with Gillian and John for two nights whilst we attended a wedding at Clearwell Castle.

THE GOOD
The barn conversion was beautifully decorated and very cosy (the land and house are equally as well maintained and beautifully done) 
The room was equally as lovely with potentially the comfiest beds and best quilts I have experienced
The location is perfect with some lovely walks into the woods directly from their land
Gillian and John  were extremely welcoming and friendly and couldn't have been more helpful 
The breakfast was FANTASTIC (compliments to John the chef) they even kindly made us bacon sandwiches to go as we had to leave very early the third day. 

THE BAD
Nothing! The only thing I would have changed is to have an eye level window in my bedroom as I like a little more natural light but the skylight would be perfectly sufficient for most and of course this should be expected with a barn conversion.

Wonderful stay!

We were made to feel really welcome by Gillian and John.  The cottage we rented, Honey Cottage was well equipped, nicely furnished and exactly what we needed for a week.  

The walk into Staunton (with the White Horse Inn as a fave) was lovely through the woods.  Newland is also close by.

A final mention for Tess the dog who was a firm favourite for our two girls and thanks Gillian for always letting them play together!

Lovely place, lovely welcome and thoroughly recommend this place, whether as a B&B or cottage.
