I couldn't belive the quality of the room for the price that I paid!! It was brilliant. 
A real gem in the Crown of Durham, the pub is a true locals local.
I'm already planning my stay here for next year!


A great place at a low price.

Arrived and checked in without any hitches. Shown room and everything clean. Bed very comfy.  Went down to the bar and made to feel welcome by everyone. Breakfast was spot on and set us up for the day, offered  cereal while waiting for the cooked breakfast and plenty of tea, coffee and orange juice. Definitely would stay again and reccomend to family and friends.

Wish we had more time 

This hotel is situated.a little out of town but walkable especially downhill. There are also bus stops 1 min walk from the hotel. 
Great accommodation in being clean, warm and comfy. Full English breakfast included. For me the hospitality was well above that which you receive in some 5 star places and the bar is full of locals who welcome guests into their midst. I most definitely will return next time in Durham.

Good Northern Hospitality

The proprietor was very friendly and welcoming. This small pub with rooms is at the top of the town. A bit far to walk uphill  to from the Centre with luggage but a short cab ride. Our cozy double room was certainly adequate and had a private bathroom. We were above the street and not too noisy. The lovely part was the inclusion of breakfast that was served each day in a dining room. Graham and his wife presented a full cooked breakfast and on the days we had to be out early they packed us a take-away bag!  Brilliant! The hotel is quaint, quiet and the price was great for the amenities. A lovely experience in Durham and we loved the walk down the back way to the river that our host recommended. Also, very clean!

Clean, cozy and welcoming!

The room is 5 star and breakfast included. Grahame the landlord has got it right. Shall be coming back.  Bathroom was clean and water hot. I've stayed in many pub bed and breakfast venues and this tops them all.

Very welcoming pub and friendly.

Despite the property being on an industrial/ retail park estate there was minimal vehicle noise. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable, a couple of issues.. shower didn't drain quickly and there is an issue with the water feed into certain parts as a noise comes though the property  in the early hours. All the staff were fantastic, welcoming, approachable and nothing was any trouble for any of them., but my praise goes to the morning staff they have and  am sorry I did not get her name but when serving breakfasts, no request was any trouble for her, a diamond!!

Weekend away stay

Nice comfortable, clean room. 20 minute walk into Durham center, nice breakfast and a good friendly pub to boot. What more would you want for this price range?
Friendly, helpful landlord and bar staff made the price this closer to city center difficult to believe. 100% recommend over a Travelodge our holiday Inn

Great value for money

Stayed here on the eve of the Great North Run.  Not particularly picturesque (situated by a retail park on the outskirts).  A great welcome from the gaffer, spotlessly clean, great breakfast and lovely locals. A bargain at £50 a night - defo recommend.

stayed here for 2 nights last weekend for the price its excellant value good parking nice walk into durham or no64 bus goes from over the road very clean and beds comfortable the breakfast was superb the staff both on check in and at breakfast were very friendly and helpful couldn t fault it in any way

weekend away

Not the best of settings among the industrial units and large stores, but it’s a very friendly place with recently refurbished rooms. We had a double with en-suite bathroom - everything appeared new and particularly clean, especially the bedding. While the room was on the small side, it was particularly good value for money. Included was a good traditional hot breakfast. Easy free parking outside the hotel and a couple of decent restaurants within walking distance.
