We stayed here for 3days in August excellent location,the staff were friendly and helpful good choice of beers as brewery is attached 
Room good has everything you need ,food excellent good choice from menu and special board,
Special thanks to Tracy for looking after us ,would definitely recommend staying here 

Excellent pub and location

Lovely weekend stay, one of the little cottages to the rear, with dog. Friendly staff at all times, clean rooms, pub good food 👌.Coniston brewery here helps 😀,  Bluebird XL up there with the greats. Location excellent and parking available, nice breakfast and very friendly lady serving, thank you. Stunning location.  Reasonable pricing.

Weekend getaway

We only went here for some drinks on an evening and were welcomed by the bar staff including Trudi. 

It’s got a nice local feel to the place and is very dog friendly.  Half is carpeted and half hard floor.  So remember this, if you want your dog to be comfortable. 

First pub I’ve been been to that doesn’t take cash.  So it’s debit/credit card or Applepay only.  Not an issue really - but worth knowing if your a die hard cash is king type.

What a lovely pub, the burger was  really good even if it was a little over priced. Staff generally really nice. Short blonde haired bubbly member of staff who was there on the saturday we visited  was very polite and chatty, made us feel very welcome, unlike the bald headed guy who called me a "moron" cause I asked for white sugar for my friend to have in her coffee. He shouldn't be in the hospitality industry as he is anything but!! Maybe the blonde lady behind the bar could give him some pointers and show him how's its done! There was another lady behind the bar who made negative comments and looks regarding a drink I had ordered without know the medical reasons for the ordering of that particular drink!! I found this somewhat embarrassing. If im verbally abused again on our next visit i will make representation to the management. We have been here before on previous visits and found it to be one of the best pubs in the area and will not be be put off by a rude minority when the pros out way the cons. Keep up the good work guys as you out shine the competition. 

Our thoughts on the Blck bull

I don't know if he's the landlord but been there lots of times in the hope that maybe he was just having a bad day on other occasions but he is consistently rude and abrupt ! I dont feel the need to describe him because if you know you know ! Shame really as its a lovely little pub but the atmosphere is so negative when he is there !

Well, I arrived at 17:00 and NO PARKING at all - too few spaces and not accessible - so struggled in the dark but eventually I found a space on the road.  Didn’t go to my room as I was with friends for dinner etc.  After dinner, at 22:00, I went to my room and it stank of cigarettes (so when I complained a staff member accompanied me to the stinky room the staff lady said she couldn’t smell anything but the window was wide open so the smell ‘may have drifted in’.  V doubtful and as I am ex smoker I would know!  Room clean but £110 for one night in a room that stinks frankly is a urine extraction - the room itself is ok but not great!  I would certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel and frankly if I wasn’t in such an isolated dark place I would have moved on!  Stinky stinky stinky whatever the staff lady said my room stinks of stale smoke!

Pub grub ok room stank of cigarettes - no parking

Went in 2 nights on the trot. Muddy with dog. Very welcoming and good beer & food. Not the cheapest but worth paying for ...will go again. Short menu which is a good thing...unlikely to be a freezer full from the wholesaler.

Great pub great food

We stayed in Coniston for a week and frequented the pub regularly. My husband tried most of the different ales available. Good selection of gins too.

I had an absolutely delicious ginger sponge pudding.

It would have been 5* except the pub closes particularly early, calling last orders at 10pm even on a Saturday night when there were plenty of people in the pub 

Traditional Pub, good real ale

We (group of 5) came here after a long hike up the nearby mountains and were tired and hungry, but this place made the perfect end to our walk. We had fish and chips, steak and ale pie, and pork belly, and they were all so good, I couldnt get enough! Unlike some places that serve you a pot of pastry with hardly any filling, the pies here were fantastic, as recommended by regular customers sat next to us. 
We tried one of every beer, and the Bluebird, Stout and Old Man were great!
I would 100% recommend!

Perfect food and drink

We had a couple of beer only visits and then a final one where we ate.

The beer was brill, good to see them serving stout which seemed v popular. 

The staff were welcoming and friendly. 

We liked the fact that there was a small menu (incl veggie/vegan options) with tasty sounding daily specials. My chicken supreme dish was nice but I would have appreciated more mushroom sauce. Fresh n firm veg though...nothing soggy here! 

Defo worth a visit for the cosy atmosphere.
