I have been at the Melrose Hotel for the past 2 weeks and I have 2 weeks left of my stay here, the hotel is in a nice location which over looks the beach and has some beautiful views depending on the weather and it is also close to the town centre and not very far from Clacton pier.

We stayed for one night on the 25th August in this what they called a hotel we always make sure we state a B&B as we like to have breakfast in morning well this was not the case at all I do not recommend anyone staying here as it was diabolical absolutely disgusting we have never in our time we spend in Clacton experienced such a bad service with an absolute dive of a room for £120 never again the toilet & shower were communal & we normally have one in our room no breakfast was served we didn't even get Amy hot beverages in our room to set us up for the day & as you can see wires everywhere 2 very very angry & upset customers we will not be returning & don't want anyone else experiencing the same problem

I would not recommend anybody to stay at this hotel it is disgusting there was bugs in the bed. Lots of mould in the bathroom!!  The managing director is VERY Rude!

I have never stayed in a hotel like this before and will not be recommending this.

I stayed at this hotel for one night in August while on a business trip to Clacton. It was a very enjoyable stay.
My room had an en suite and a large comfortable bed. Plenty of towels and bathroom soaps etc were provided. The room also benefited from a lovely sea view.
I was well looked after by the staff throughout my stay. An excellent breakfast was served in the morning which I enjoyed in the nice dining area.
I spoke to the owner at some length about his exciting plans for the hotel over the next year.  I can see the Melrose developing into a very attractive option for anyone planning to stay in Clacton.

Stayed here with my sons for two nights, in the family suite. Very cosy hotel with amazing sea views from our room. Owners were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating to our needs. My sons loved the close walk to all the amusements on the pier. Would definitely come back and stay again!

This has got to be one of the worst places I ever stayed in my life the room stunk of smoke I found fag butts and a lighter under the most uncomfortable smelling bed 
No remote for the tv no breakfast unless you pay another 12 pound on top of the eighty pound for the room no toilet paper in the run down toilet just blue roll absolutely shocking

new persron that own it is rude not clean dont look after there custermos and dont make you fel wel come charge for breakfast hes nasty rude made me my son hoild bad neaver going there agan  smell smoke weed  mold  in bed room and dont check rooms ask if your ok  need any think

I stayed here with my family on 23/07/21 and was supposed to stay for 4 nights but left on the 25/07/21. On arrival on the 23/07/21 we entered the Melrose Hotel and was waiting to check in for 45 minutes for the host to even find our booking which is very worrying considering I booked this trip away on Jun 16th 2021 I was then told that the two rooms I had booked room 7/14 were not available for the duration of our stay and that my children would have to move from room 14 for 1 night to allow other guests to stay there and then move all there stuff back into the room after the other guests had finished with it which is just ridiculous when I held all confirmation for the rooms by 1 of the owners This was eventually resolved by the host and she moved the other guests to another room for the next day payment was made and we were shown to our rooms. As we reached the room doors it took another 10 - 15 mins just to try and get the keys to work in the doors. When we eventually got into the room it was of a decent size but still had Monster Munch (Crisps) all over the room so attention to detail with room cleanliness was extremely poor and draws in rooms were just filled with wrappers from sweets. But we didn't want the first impressions of the arrival and the state of the rooms to effect the family holiday as this is something we were looking forward to for a while. Day 2 we decided to have breakfast at the hotel as the smell of bacon in the morning is just to tempting I was told by the Host (Owner) that it would be £12 per breakfast for Adults which I thought was ridiculous but agreed I would pay for 3 Adults 4 Children more so for the experience. Oh my did i make a mistake we were seated in the dining area which has to many tables in for the size of the area so you cant move and from what i saw hasn't been cleaned for a while as there is dust all over the furniture and is still set up for Christmas by the looks of it as there display that they use to put cereals on were Chef larder egg boxes that were wrapped in wrapping paper and duct tape was not a great feel or image. Breakfast was then served .... Let me just let you know what you get for your £12 x1 Iceland Sausage x1 Bacon x1 Egg x4 Mushrooms x3 grilled cherry tomatoes and a plastic bowl the size of a hamster bowl on your plate that is full of dust and is contaminating the rest of your food its safe to say we used Weatherspoon's that is within walking distance from then on beautiful breakfast with unlimited Tea and Coffee £5.10 Another major thing I saw was kitchen chemicals that were not D10 and in sealed spray bottles all over the kitchen work surfaces which should not be there as the wrong chemical could KILL SOMEONE ! And I have reported this for poor food safety and hygiene practices and have photo evidence of this also. Day 3 Me and my family go out for the day and on returning at around 9:30pm the Host is on the phone to her Husband (Stuart/Owner) Which would like to talk to me I found this very Odd as why would he want to speak to me ? It turns out that Stuart wanted more money from me and my family for staying at the Hotel as we haven't paid enough and that we bullied his wife on arrival to stay there ! I was obviously confused about this as on arrival when we were told 1 of our rooms were assigned to other guests was going to go elswhere and stay at the Premier inn but the Host said she would resolve the issue and took the payment via cash there was no bullying whatsoever he then tried to put a guilt trip on me that we hadn't paid enough and being in the Hotel business myself should be ashamed and that he would contact my employer to let them know ...... I then tried to explain what had happened but he just didn't want to know and told me that me and my family were permanently banned from staying at his hotel and that he hopes "WE SLEEP WELL" in a very threatening tone this obviously put everyone on edge as we couldn't even look our rooms from the inside due to it being broken. As any normal person would do I immediately looked for alternative accommodation as my children we crying and scared as they could clearly see that myself the grandmother and mum were on edge and was discussing on which steps to take .... We shortly left the Melrose Hotel immediately and stayed elsewhere. Day 4 and i receive an email from Stuart stating that his wife (Host) has noticed we have left the hotel and that we did this to avoid paying the extra costs which i thought was bizzare as he knows what he said on the phone and that it would make anyone want to leave and had attached a DEMAND for payment for £340 ! Which has all been documented and has all been added to the portfolio. Day 5 I receive another email saying if I didn't pay a £1000 now that it would be passed onto authorities in 24hrs the whole running of this hotel as well as the owner is enough to put me off going on holiday for a while. And i will add I will not be paying the demand for payment as I had confirmation on the rooms total which was paid in full and even specifies what rooms we had booked but Ladies and Gents don't be fooled by the cheap prices as you will be demanded by Stuart to pay more after being there a couple of days STAY CLEAR !!

Avoid at all costs !

Under new management, new manager needs to go on a customer service course, found him very unprofessional ( shouting at staff in front of customers) rooms not clean and mouldy bread at breakfast. I would never go back.
