Caution parking is a con " we don't own the car park, its clearly signed" despite spending money here i wasn't made aware of the need to register my vehicle and the signage wasn't there, next thing parking fine from some shyster parking company demanding £100 contacted the Old mill with receipts to prove i had been there they did contact me back however they said it was out of there hands i will never be back and urge you to avoid this place at all cost looks like a nice place and nice location but to be honest its noisy and needs refurbishment.

Avoid the parking scam

Has everything you need for a night in Bath. Location just out of the centre of Bath so it is relatively quiet. The restaurant was closed during our stay, but the breakfast buffet was open in the morning with a great offering and beautiful view of the river.

Convenient and charming

Good for the price you pay. We stayed for one night whilst visiting the Christmas markets. We checked in quite late but happy to see plenty of parking space and welcomed by reception. Although we had been informed of a deposit requirement, this was never requested. We stayed in the lodge having read reviews and knew what to expect. The room was basic but was clean and had everything needed for a convenient stay in bath! The kettle was very old and didn’t look the cleanest so we didn’t use this. The shower was clean and lovely and hot and with a comfy bed was lovely for the one night! The noise coming in from outside and adjoining rooms was very loud however so something to be aware of. Breakfast was lovely and delicious. We arrived at about 9am for breakfast, immediately seated with plenty of cooked breakfast options. We did notice a lot of other people arriving however a little time after us who couldn’t be seated as there was no space and the food then very quickly ran out! This was replaced by staff as quick as they could. Overall it was a lovely stay for the price we paid although may not consider coming back for longer periods of time just owing to the loud rooms and the fact that the room was quite small (although was expecting this and fine for one night).

Lovely stay!

My girlfriend very kindly booked a weekend here for my birthday.
We weren’t in the main hotel but what’s described as “The Lodge” which sounds lovely but turned out to be the worst accommodation we have ever stayed in.
The room was tiny with the door opening straight into the bedroom and the bed taking up pretty much all of the floor space.
The first thing we noticed was a massive puddle on the bathroom floor as the plumbing to the sink was leaking which we reported to reception.
The lock on the front door was hanging off as it had screws missing.
The door frame was covered in mould and the windows were wet with condensation.
The radiator didn’t work and the thermostat on the wall was broken.
The handle on the window was hanging off and when I opened the window it dropped in one corner and almost fell out. 
There was no soap in either of the two dispensers in the bathroom.
We went into Bath for the evening returning at about midnight and the leak hadn’t been fixed and the puddle was now larger.  The hotels solution, chuck some towels on top of it.
The following day we spoke to reception and we’re “offered” to upgrade to the main hotel for our last night but would have to pay a fee.  The fee? £300!
We declined this offer and instead opted to move to another room in The Lodge.  This room was better but still not worth the price. 
Bath itself was lovely and we will definitely visit it again but we will never be returning to this  Hotel.

Used this hotel rather than stay in the centre of Bath, it is only a few minutes bus ride from the top of the road to the centre.  Nice hotel, we had a superior double overlooking the river - not a very spacious room, but everything we needed, including a fan (much appreciated in the hot weather).  A little disappointed that on arrival we were told the restaurant was closed but the receptionist directed us to Bathampton Mill just a few minutes walk over the toll bridge.  This restaurant was excellent.  The room and the hotel were clean and all the staff welcoming and helpful.  The breakfast was very good.  

A nice, just out of the city hotel 

My partner and I came here for his birthday  weekend and what a wonderful weekend we both had. The staff was very welcoming and even took the time to decorate our room in balloons and banners.

Our room was very nice, clean, warm and with a beautiful view of the river.

We had our evening meal in the hotel restaurant both food and drinks very nice and the service we got from chloe from start to finish was outstanding she's an absolute asset to the hotel she's amazing at her job and very accommodating.

Very good

Me and my boyfriend went for an early valentines night in bath. The area is nice and the room was clean and nice. Bathroom was also nice and had a bluetooth mirror speaker. We booked the superior double room with a river view. It was simply 2 single beds pushed together, which was very disappointing and uncomfortable for me and my boyfriend. Overall, we had a nice stay but the bed was not good.

Nice stay, bad bed 

I stayed here on 07 Jan 2023 and I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. At first, I was apprehensive walking in because it looks very dated from the outside but I needn't have worried. The room had plenty of clean linen and the bed was very comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities. The breakfast in the morning was buffet style and I have to say this was delicious and plentiful.

However, the hotel "rules" are really bizarre. I made my reservation on booking.com. As with most people who make any kind of reservation using that website, we are looking for the basics i.e. room price, reservation confirmation etc but on arrival, it would seem that there's a lot of fundamental information which they expect that you will have read at length contained within the hotel blurb. I understand that this is neccessary to an extent but to expect people to be looking out for hidden charges or important seperate information relating to their room (that's not in the main body of the reservation particulars) is rather unrealistic....

On arrival, the "receptionist" asked me for my credit card to take a pre-authorised damage fee. I had luckily only recently applied and been successful in obtaining a credit card (I don't know what would have happened if I didn't have one). When I asked what the fee was for (having not expected this), the person behind the desk abruptly insisted that the fee had been mentioned on booking. When I got home, I checked this and it would seem this is correct but it is one of the hidden "charges" that are noted but not in the main particulars part of the reservation which I found a bit frustrating. It would seem however that this fee is refundable within 7 days.

I was also asked if I would like to change my reservation to a booking within the hotel. To be fair, the price for my room was really reasonable anyway but when I accepted (understandably assuming that i'd be in the hotel part of the complex anyway), the staff member abruptly followed up with "you booked the annex - it was part of your reservation". I wasn't even disputing that but he seemed very confrontational (as though expecting that I would express dissatisfaction which I didn't intend to). I hasten to add, the annex is actually a block of rooms at the side of the building in the car park, so I can't comment on these rooms.

The other thing that annoyed me - I was charged £5 for car parking (another unclear charge noted on the website). To be honest, I felt that the charge should either have been incorporated into the cost of the hotel room or perhaps even taken and mentioned at check in. To be charged this amount seperately as I was leaving seemed like a very bizarre way of operating. In truth, I was a little put out by this charge as realistically we are paying guests at the hotel and that doesn't seem very inviting. I would have understood more if I was just parking there to go to the bar below or something but to be charged when I was actually staying at the hotel seems a bit greedy on their part. I checked the website when I got home and they justify this by stating that it is due to the convenience etc but in comparison to other hotels I have visited, this just seems like an additional money making tactic.

In summary, the hotel itself is nice (even if the room I stayed in was a little poky with a broken window handle but that's to be expected for the price). The stay itself was reasonably pleasant and the breakfast plentiful and delicious but if i'm honest, the customer "experience" is just not good. I overheard the "receptionist" talking to somebody on the phone (who seemed equally confused about the credit card situation) and the staff member seemed to be regurgitating the same explanation. There also seemed to be another guest standing at the reception desk who seemed uncomfortable. There doesn't seem to be any recognition that these "unclear charges and rules" are not obvious and the onus is left to the customer to read the hotel information and house rules etc on booking.com at length.

All in all, a pleasant experience but could have been so much better.

A reasonably pleasant stay but bizarre customer experience....

The location is in the idealic location of the local toll Bridge in Bathampton. 

1. Location. A truly picturesque location and well worth a visit if you have time, even if you are not staying. 

2. Parking. It is sufficient but tight.

3. Accomodation. While I can not speak for the rooms in the Old Mill Hotel,  the Lodge from the outside looks like a 2 storey porta cabin construction from the outside. Like a 2 storey cheap motel you see in american movies.

Inside is compact but has what is required. Double glazing is welcome but you can still hear every movement of moving vehicles in the carpark. When we stayed staff sat eating food in a car at midnight with the engine on which prevented sleep.  Being on the ground floor all movement above can be heard and wakes you up. 

While the inside has been decorated and accomodation is clean enough, the finish is not by a tradesman, more like a DIYer that can do the job but just lacks the ability to finish the job so it looks good. 

For a compact room there is a dressing table and small wardrobe so offers everything you needed including budget tea and coffe facilities. The bedroom and bathroom floors are tiled, and while the bedroom was warm on a snowey evening and the tiles in the bedroom not too cold. There is no heating in the bathroom which makes for a cold experience and i would definatey reccomend slippers. Thick socks will not cut it and we had to put  the bed runner on the bathroom floor. Sorry for whoever stays in this room if they are not washed every stay. 

The room has a free view Tv which is of a good size for the room and angled perfect for viewing anywhere in the room.

The shower is a great size and an excellent pressure and heat is easy to change. Overall for an 5ft 11 inches I had a spectacular shower but if you are much over 6ft you are going to have to duck. 

4. Dinner, 

One member of staff I think was named justina was exceptional. A grafter who ran the bar and waited on everybtable. She was constantly on the move and if she had been someone else the experience could have been very different. Well done, Justina! Dinner I had prawns which were cooked perfectly but the dish just didnt work. Pizza was good and home cooked in what we think must have been a pizza oven. Overall a fair meal for a fair price.

5. Breakfast 

Buffet style, Warm but not hot throughout.
Full english offered. Egg well cooked to an 8 out of 10. Quality of eggs maybe a 6 out of 10 and not really much taste to it. Bacon looks lovely and thick but really undercooked and that is from someone that likes soft bacon. Fat not cooked at all.  Sausages again a 5 to 6 out of 10. The only way I can describe them is they are like a walls sausage that is pink all the way through no matter how much you cook it. Not much taste but adequate. Mushrooms find but no seasoning, fresh tomatoes no tinned but well cooked and seasoned. Hashbrowns had to be selected carefully as the bottom ones were soggy and the best looked great but were rubbery. Beans where budget. Toast was adequate but cheap bread and i had to adjust the toaster as once through was not enough and twice was burnt. A simple check would ammend this. Agi at breakfast was lovely and clearly another hard worker. Again the staff improved the experience.  

6. Overall the staff saved the experience which was budget but given the price compared with anything in bath you get what you pay for, but only because of the location. You would not pay for this place if it was not situated elsewhere.

The hotel is very handy for the bus stop into Bath, which is its main plus. It's good to have parking on the premises. (I had to allow a reserve on my credit card "because you've booked through Expedia - ie hotels.com - and we don't have your CCard number!", ostensibly to cover the £5 car park charge.) Be warned that the hotel drive is adjacent to the toll bridge. If you approach from the north you don't need to pay the toll but, at busy times (school run and workers) you might have to queue with the toll-payers until you can get access to the drive.

The bedroom was OK, if a bit cramped. The main issue was the queen-size mattress on a double or king-size bed, meaning two people sleeping had less room than was necessary. 

Buffet breakfast was good but, if you didn't want a fry up, the cereals etc were very limited.

The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. One issue was the reserve on the CCard: I emailed ahead twice to book parking and a table for dinner, with prompt replies to both. I emailed twice later to ask why the CCard reserve hadn't been removed and got no response. (The reserve came off automatically a month later.)

There is a restaurant attached, The Waterwheel. I think the hotel and restaurant are now under new management (judging by earlier reviews). We ate there on each of our 3 nights - first night good, second night dreadful, third night so so. Therefore I have a lot of issues with it and, in future, I would walk over the bridge to the pub to eat, or go to the nearby village. The arrangement between the hotel and restaurant was peculiar, probably due to them previously being separate business - you could book a table from the hotel, but then had to pay as you leave the restaurant because it was a different account, or something. I won't say more here about the restaurant but will review the Waterwheel separately.
