The room was clean, once we found it, the key fob was wrongly labelled.  It appeared to have been wrecked recently,  and nothing had been changed.  Broken toilet roll holder,  broken rubbish bin and damaged woodwork and paint. I was told that EV car could be charged at the National Trust chargepoint. "Just unplug their van if one is on the charging point " The N T guy we spoke to was not impressed! Needless to say, I had  NOT unplugged their van!

Very comfortable hotel in a unique location giving access to amazing countryside and all local beaches and towns.

A unique break in North Devon

Great place to stay, staff were very friendly and helpful. Situated in beautiful surroundings and well worth visiting.

Everything we hoped for when we booked. We have driven past many times when visiting Exmoor and always fancied a stay there. It didn't let us down.

Family stay at Hunters Inn

Absolutely exceptional service from all staff, especially the Manager, Ash, who could not do enough for us. The staff are doing an amazing job given staffing shortages in this industry and I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel. We stayed for 2 nights due to a family funeral, and the hotel also hosted the wake for us - they were so kind and accommodating and the spread was excellent. The chef (s) is clearly experienced and talented and we enjoyed delicious food on both nights at dinner. Again, they have been proactive in managing the staffing shortages all hotels are facing by stripping back the menu, but what they do offer is made to a very high standard. Breakfast is freshly cooked to order, with a lovely selection of cereals, including amazing homemade muesli, fresh fruit and croissants, which were still warm! We have stayed here before and will definitely be returning. We can't speak highly enough of the staff and this beautiful, historic hotel.

Charming hotel in a very picturesque setting.  Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Everything about the stay was wonderful.  All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating, the food was plentiful and tasted amazing, the room was tastefully decorated and spacious.  Apologies but I can’t seem to upload my videos, which include the room and the dining room!

Wonderful place to stay

The Hotel is set in the most lovely valley.  It would be a bird watchers dream.  There is the most beautiful peacock who lives there.   It is next to a stream and surrounded by woodland.  The hotel is very clean.  The food is lovely.  The property is very warm as it was cold when we visited.  The only thing we didn’t find pleasurable was the roads to it.  We came in from what turned out to be the worse road and used the other road for the rest of the time.   It was a one track road and the car was almost touching either side.  We did not bother venturing out after dark due to the roads which were more like farm tracks but it would not put us off visiting again 🙂

Just returned from our fourth visit to this beautiful National Trust property. It’s dog friendly and relaxing. 
All the staff including Ash and Zane couldn’t do more to make our stay wonderful. 
The food is amazing and even the granola is made on the premises. 
Lots of amazing walks from the property into the wonderful 4 acres owned by the trust. Ask at reception and you can even get maps for each walk. 
A really special place.

Fabulous relaxing break

Went to Hunters Inn for lunch, ordered pint of lager and half a cider with meals and seemed overly expensive for the drinks as knew how much the meals were from menu.  I got a receipt and once I had sat down in dining area, noticed that the half a pint of cider cost £5.50 compared to a pint of lager at £5 PLUS a £4.40 service charge that was neither mentioned about on the menu, in the bar or by the staff had been added on top which I was pretty annoyed about because customers should be made aware of such charges BEFORE paying and had I known about it I would at least have had the choice to either pay it or dine elsewhere.

The food was pretty mediocre considering the price and the beans were undercooked, very crunchy and almost unedible. The dining area looked very tired and had a dirty carpet with  sleepy wasps crawling on it.

  There was no point in discussing it with the staff as had already paid and I just wanted to finish the meal and leave butI decided to contact the hotel chain `Bespoke Hotels` that run it on behalf of the National Trust and no response whatsoever hence the review. We would not eat there again as we felt rather ripped off.

The service charge really angered us the most because it was never mentioned anywhere so be warned!
