Zohra

After staying in an all-inclusive in northern Sousse we wanted to change to a local hotel to get a better picture of the place. We felt the Zohra was 100% better simply due to the warmth and friendliness of the owners. Getting There: Hotel Zohra is only a few steps from the beach. Although not many taxi drivers know exactly where it is they will ask other drivers if they don't. It is within a 10 minute walk from the train station where you can get to Tunis for 7.50 dinar. The Room: It is a simply furnished family hotel so don't expect much in aesthetics. This being said it was spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm. It had a balcony with a view down the street to the sea. The room is cleaned daily, beds made and towels replaced. Extras: Breakfast is a piece of bread, a croissant, jam, butter, a boiled egg and a yoghurt. All of this is included in the room rate and is served in the breakfast room. When we arrived we were given two different wifi codes and told that they weren't working very well. Later the man at reception gave us two different wifi codes he'd got from neighbours to make sure we were connected. Although these weren't always working smoothly it was enough to get basic coverage in the room. Location: Great location, a stone's throw from the sea. There are 'fast food' stands and restaurants around that serve kebabs, burgers, spaghetti and sandwiches. If you exit the hotel and turn left across the crossroad there is a stand on the left which does 'chapattis' which were delicious with fries and olives for 2.50 dinar. There is also a cafe to the right of the hotel which sells shisha for 3.50 dinar and large beers for 3.50 dinar. The medina is a ten minute walk away. The train station is equally as close. Right in the middle of Sousse. Staff: Possibly the friendliest welcome we have had at a Hotel. Having said this it wasn't intrusive and they left us alone unless we had questions. The woman who cleans your room and serves you breakfast is very welcoming. The owner is always ready to chat or to leave you be. The Zohra Hotel's owners and staff have found the perfect balance. Something that surprised us is we didn't get this in the all-inclusive up the road.
