Taad Luang Resort

We stayed at Taadluang for a couple of nights after spending a fantastic New Year in and around Chiang Rai. We wanted to find a place where we could completely relax for a couple of days before returning to our working lives in the city and we were not disappointed, infact, we are going back to Taadluang next month! The set up is simple, a main building, cottages on stilts on the side of a forested hill overlooking a small river and a warm and friendly reception for all. The cottage that we stayed in had a good balcony where we could sit and watch the stars at night, inside there was a bathroom with hot water (a luxury we hadn't expected) and a very comfortable bedroom with a good bed, TV, wardrobe etc. A completely peaceful experience and we relaxed. Food was on offer whenever we asked, the local Kaeng Hang-Le northern-style pork curry had become a real favourite throughout our trip and Taadluang's cook did not dissapoint!! The surrounding area is beautiful, mainly forest and terraced rice paddies and the clientele almost exclusively Thai. The village a few kilometres up a dirt track also proved to be a very interesting walk, seeing an entire community so heavily dependent on the land without any heavy machinery involved was almost like looking back in time. The owner 'Natapol' speaks good English and was very happy to share the story behind Taadluang and to provide us with information on the area and its history. Taadluang Resort was the end stop on our trip to Chiang Rai at the beginning of this year, on our next trip it will be the first stop.
