Hinoki House B&B

We stayed at Hinoki House for 5 nights, late September/early October 2016, while in Yelan county on a personal trip. Unfortunately, we were there during hurricane Megi. The hotel owner and staff took excellent care of us during this horrific storm, which lasted for almost 24 hours. Each morning the hotel offered a choice of Taiwan or western breakfast. We tried both and both were very good. The rooms were very pretty, very clean. Great shower. Fridge in room, free bottled water each day. Good tv w some English channels. Good wifi. Room had a small balcony which was nice. The lobby was quaint and the free coffee was fantastic. Although we didn't use them ourselves, they had bikes for guest use. (Don't know if there was a charge or if free). Very attentive staff. The hotel is in a very quiet part of Yelan county, near plum blossom (Meihua) lake, a well known lake in this area. it was relaxing and nice to be able to walk or take motorized carts around the lake, eat at the local small eateries, and buy goodies from the food vendors around the lake. At night, there was nothing to do in the area but dinner, but that was ok with us; we aren't partiers anyway. We did take a drive up the mountain to sight-see and visited a tea farm. In this area the people generally do not speak English, as in larger cities like Taipei and Kaohsiung, but they were as kind and helpful as any people we have ever met in our travels! We were able to communicate fine, despite the language barrier. We are returning to Taiwan in a few weeks and will definitely stay at Hinoki house again if we need to return to Yelan county!
