We took a moderate to difficult 1.2 mile hike from the top of the Pfinstegg lift to the Baregg Hut. The views are spectacular and the service is friendly. You can’t picnic there. It’s not a hike that anyone with a fear of heights should take. The loved it.

Spectacular Views with Shade on the Trail

This was our my seventh visit to Grindelwald: The 1st one 1963 when the glacier still could be entered directly from the valley. Now: For an easy start: Use the "Sailbahn" up to  Restaurant Pfingstegg. From there use the path direction Bäregg Hütte. Easy walk, but 400 meters elevation from Pfingstegg. From Bäregg Hütte a fantastic view over the rest of "Untere Gletscher" and the backside of Eiger and Mittellegigrat. Sit down and relax and order food and something to eat… To get good photos you may follow the path continuing from the back side of the cabin. When returning from the cabin you may use the path to Marmor-Hütte, then down to the entrance of the Gletscherschlucht. Short walk back to the town. Shoes: Good walking shoes. Careful when raining.

"Bäregg": One of the highlights of our tour

Arriving on a sunny day after an energetic but very doable 3 hour hike up from Hotel Wetterhorn, this modern, clean, catered hut has a fantastic terrace overlooking the east face of the Eiger and the glacier. There are four very nice 6-8 bedded dorms all on the first floor, sharing a shower and 3 sinks. The loos are downstairs. The welcome from Heirri and Helen and their staff was very warm and friendly and they took excellent care of us throughout our stay. The evening meal was very good and not cheese focused which was really welcome.  Heirri's recommendation to walk out the next morning without our packs to view the second glacier was a highlight. 

Highly recommended for the complete mountain experience. 

Our family of four did a three night backpacking trip in the Bernese Oberland which was filled with wonder and beauty.  However, our arrival to the Berghaus Baregg was the highlight.  Situated in an amazing setting, beauty surrounded us.  The interior of the gesthaus had a simple beauty of its own. Yet, even more important was the warm welcome we received from Henry and Helen (I hope I got their names right).  I would recommend an overnight stay to anyone hiking in this region.  It will be unforgettable.

With a great view of  Grindelwald Glacier and the valley below.You should hike up to here.The views were amazing. The hut managers are very nice.The Beautiful view of Glacier from the window make our room is very nice but we must share bathrooms and showering facilities with others.Dinner is OK,simple but delicious.When the next morning come,the views are very nice and you can feel as if the Heaven is very close to you.

it will be a great experience if you stay overnight at here.

We hiked up to Berghaus Baregg from Pfinstegg, about a 90 minute walk with great valley views.   The trail was not difficult, but could be scary at times due to the steepness of the hill sides.  We had lunch out on the deck viewing the Lower Grindelwald Glacier and lake in the valley below.   We did not stay overnight.

We made the hike to berghaus viewpoint with friends the 16th of August and it was a very hot day. My friends have a baby and need to put some sunscream. So, we stopped for maximum 5 minutes in the shadow of the terrace. We didn't sit and didn't eat our stuff. It was just a small break for the baby. They didn't either change the baby in the restaurant.

The owner came to us very angry, asking us to move, saying that the mountain is big enough to stop elsewhere. Still, the terrasse was almost empty, so we didn't bother anyone who could have want to have a drink. She also ask if we do the same in our country ...
We didn't respond and stayed calm but surely I should have said that in our country people are friendy and comprehensive !

So, enjoy the view in the hiking path but don't stop here, except if you want to give money to a very unfriendly owner.
