My wife and I stayed two nights at Hotel Restaurant Steinbock.  (It was to be three nights, but the IT meltdown stole a day and a half of our vacation time in Switzerland.)  The staff were warm, welcoming, and exceptionally helpful.  They made our stay delightful.  Our spacious room had windows and a terrace that looked out over teal-blue Lake Brienz.  The room was well furnished and spotlessly clean.  Breakfast was a feast.  The restaurant, staffed with friendly, hustling professionals, served scrumptious food.  

If you want a lovely place to stay in beautiful Brienz, seriously consider Hotel Restaurant Steinbock.  My wife and I will stay here when we return, no question!  

Do note that this business is a restaurant first, and a hotel second.  The staff are fully occupied with their bustling restaurant for most of the day.  No one  hangs around the hotel desklet to answer calls, emails, or texts.  They do receive those messages and they WILL respond.  Just not immediately.  My wife and I found this not to be a problem at all.  But if you are the kind of person who needs immediate and continual attention 24/7, this may not be your best choice. 

Otherwise, book it right now!

A delightful stay!

We checked in early and there was no problem here. 

The location is ideal in that it sits near the middle of the town of Brienz, close to the trains and lake front. It looks like a classic Swiss or Austrian "Zimmer". There was parking across the street and behind the facility.

The owners were cordial and proper and showed us to our room which was amazing. Spacious, organized, tidy, clean (with clean lines) and VERY roomy. Everything is wood and the balcony (also spacious) was amazing. The roof covering the balcony is at an angle such that you can't see the entire view to the lake unless sitting down but then again the sun was out and very strong so this was OK.

The bed and furniture was very comfortable. The next morning we ate a sumptuous served breakfast and maybe due to the low season there was another couple in the gorgeous dining room. 

The dining room also serves as the local bingo hall (called "lotto") which I discovered the previous night much to my surprise.

All and all this was a fabulous hotel, centrally located, near public transport and the lake front. The facility was clean and VERY comfortable.

The owners did not speak much English but we managed in broken German and English. This place was excellent.

Great Hotel / Restaurant and (maybe) Cultural center for the town

I spent a week at this hotel and was very happy with my overall experience! 

I would definitely recommend the Hotel Steinbock to travelers that want to enjoy the alps at a reasonable price but be conveniently located and have food and beer at hand.

The staff were very friendly and did their best with the staffing level provided by management. 

The only reason I have not given this hotel 5 stars is that for the price I found the food ordinary compared to similar establishments nearby.

The breakfast provided was good and all produce was fresh and served in a comfortable and clean environment.

I will likely return in a few years time.

A really great spot to base you alpine adventures for those that are on a budget!

Breakfast was one of few that offers cooked eggs with bacon! 😊 Rooms are clean and comfortable. Conveniently located. Restaurant is decent and reasonable priced given Swiss pricing.

Friendly and warm hosts

We stopped here before getting a boat back to Interlaken. Nice food and pleasant staff. Reasonably priced too. 
The chicken was very good and the lunch menu good. Worth a stop here. 
Only thing we didn't like was the gentleman next to us smoking

The hotel is as you would hope all hotel choices you make could be!
The restaurant excels...quiet and classy AND efficient, the room (#12 in our case) was perfect...cross breeze..fronting street and quiet..large balcony to view whole village from and take great photos. The view of the surrounding mountains and Lake Brienz are picture perfect.
The staff cannot do enough for you...and you have a numbered parking place in back...you can leave the car and forget it because all transport options are within 5 minute walk; train, bus, lake cruise boat...and lakefront walk that is perfect. The train and bus options will take you to Interlaken or Lucern and no parking problems.
Lots to do in Brienz...too many to mention, but something for everyone.
If you're an Aussie you must grin and bear the exchange rate...but throw caution to the wind and stay at the Steinbock!
