The place is very tired, in a poor location, the rooms are much smaller than they look in pictures, the AC is super-loud and invasive, and the 'welcome' we received was, well, very unwelcoming. Maybe this place would have been attractive once, but we were relieved to leave

Not good

The room was regular, the AC works properly, there's a fan in the room but no mosquito net. The pool is clean, has a great temperature and good size. The bathroom had a bit of a bad smell but you can get along with that. We didn't book with any travel agency and they arranged a special price, including a nice breakfast for us. It was a little noisy outside sometimes. We have been attacked by a by a religious mantis on the terrace - it was really funny. Definitely a place to recommend outside of the crowded touristic places but close enough to go to the beach with a tuktuk for 200 rupies (100 with pickme).

Nice place with clean pool and friendly staff/family

We rested for 11 days in January 2020. The hotel is clean. Cleaned every day. The hotel is in the jungle, beautiful nature. Fresh juices for breakfast every morning.The beach is 30 minutes away, but you can use the tuktuk.  Recommended for everyone !!!

The best holiday in Sri Lanka

My husband has asked me to write the following as he isnt great at these apps.
6 men stayed at the Damith and had a GREAT time. Yes its basic BUT very clean. Sheets and towels changed daily. Food excellent extremely friendly and hospitable. Relaxed surroundings woyld definitely stay again.

I newer wrote review like this, if you go on this property be ready for 1/2 star experience. We stayed one night based on our experience I cannot recommend this place. It’s not a nice and relaxing place as pictures shows.

The Owner and other people i don’t know they are staff or not, approached very aggressively and not in service minded. It’s a terrible situation for us.

Rooms are OK, A/C also fine, but seems they didn't change the towels, it was dirty and old. its not value for money.

There is no privacy because owners family also living near this place its terrible, children crying and involving our activities. You can see online booking sites this place mentions "No pets" but their dog stayed near the place and barking.

Swimming pool also not well maintained as picture shows.

Food ethics,manners and service was disgusting 

Don't waste your time and money, looking at this hotel any longer and go somewhere else.

Do not book here if you want a decent place

We had a wonderful 12-night stay at Damith's guesthouse in December and January after an 2,5-week tour through Sri Lanka. We were in many different Guesthouses and hotels, and liked some, but just loved it here. It's a bit out the way and far from the beach,  but more than makes up for it with the beautiful garden, very nice and always clean pool. We had a double room with a really large bed, mosquito net and A/C, the room itself wasn't very big, but more than enough, especially considering you have the terrace, the restaurant, and the pool to hang around.  Everything was spotless (and cleaned daily, although we opted for asking for a room clean every 4-5 days). Damith and his family went of their way to let us and the other guests feel welcome. We spent many hours in and around the pool, some days not even leaving the grounds, since you have everything right there: sun, a pool, good food and drinks. Damith was extremely helpful and nice, he drove us around, helped us with shopping, a medical matter, and every other wish and problem we had.
All in all, if you need a Guesthouse in Unawatuna (or Sri Lanka, for that matter), this is it!

Best guesthouse in Sri Lanka!

We spent two nights here with two kids. The place is run by Damith and his family, and it is clean and great value for money. 

Damith prepares the meals, which taste great. One drawback though... he appears to make the food shirtless and proceeds to bring it out to the restaurant in the same attire as well which puts you off your food if you are a bit particular about these things 😬 

We booked a car from Damith for the duration of our trip but were told on arrival that the car had to make a trip to Colombo to pick some other guests. Damith took us sightseeing in his tuk tuk which was great fun but when you pay for a car and have to go around in a tuk..... he was pretty good about it when we pointed it out though and reduced the price of the car to account for us not being able to use it the first day. 

The pool is a great positive about the place. It is very clean and nicely maintained. Refreshing to take a dip there after a long day out and about the town. 

Beware the mosquitoes though. They come out in droves at nightfall and we didn't escape even armed with mosquito repellant and speciality repellant bands! 



Nice clean place, with a few negatives. Good value though! 

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Damith Guest House and we really enjoyed it. 
The room was very clean & quiet with a king size comfortable bed. Common areas were very pleasant. The pool was clean and refreshing. The house, pool and garden are very well kept. We enjoyed looking at climbers in the adjacent coconut grove and saw a large varieties of birds. 
It's a 25 minute walk or a quick tuk tuk ride to the beach and the tourists area. We had one dinner at the guest house that was very good, fish curry. Damith also prepared a salad that was excellent!
