Only a few steps away from the beach and a few minutes walk from the city center u find Virajs Garden. Amazing rooms, amazing food and amazing hosts. We had a nice stay and a nice tour to udawalawe and ella afterwards with Shaly! Would 100% recommend

Cozy Place in the Heart of Tangalle

I just stayed one night, which was very comfortable.
I chose a room with air-con (it also had a ceiling fan), which all worked well.
You could hear the waves, but it was a nice quiet spot too.
No headboard on the bed, and the wall behind was a little dirty, but otherwise all clean, including the bathroom, which was nice (although I didn't manage to get any hot water).
Also a great position to turn left or right to find lots of cafés and restaurants.


Quiet spot close to the beach

Very nice family hotel with friendly people. With the boy named Charly and his sister we had a beautiful safari. We saw elephants very close and I could almost touch them. Yesterday we had some nice Sea chicken fish and today we will attack the prawns. We will be surprised next days

Friendly family hotel

Lovely place to be in Tangalle. 
It's near the beach and the center.
The family is so lovely and makes sure that you have everything you need to enjoy your staying.

Great people and place

Situated on a quiet road yards from beach, where you can watch or even help locals, as i did bring in the fishing nets.
Staff are friendly and helpful, room basic but thats all we needed, and clean. We had room at the back with aircon and mozzy net, quiet roomy and great sleep.

We took room on without booking and probably got a better rate,  all good. Walk to end of street turn right 100 meters small coffee kiosk, great coffee, guys cheery and helpful.

5 nights great room

A nice and affordable room close by the city-center and the busy beachsides... It's 30 second walk to the beach, but far enough from the party's on the numerous beach bars and restaurants... Friendly people and good breakfast.

A quiet place

Stayed at this place for five nights with out any massive issues aside from the music next door. 

However on check out the owners insisted we pay an extra 8000 rupees on the claim that we had urinated in the bed!

We had spilt some water on the mattress and the owners were completely unreasonable. It was completely obvious they weren’t going to go and buy a new mattress as they knew it was water and the whole thing was a complete rip off. 

Don’t trust them. 

Untrustworthy

Overall we had a disappointing stay here. We didn’t pay a lot and accommodation was basic which was fine. 

We had loads of additional charges at the end of our stay. The WiFi was really bad and only on for a few hours a day. The breakfast was the worst breakfast we had in Sri Lanka. And some of the staff were a bit creepy. There was also loud music playing until 3am most nights from the restaurant next door 

Disappointing stay

I arrived in Tangalle with nowhere booked but was offered numerous rooms. Was offered another room down the road for slightly more but had ocean views. At Viraj Garden they offered me a room slightly cheaper, so despite the room not being as nice, I accepted this offer. (Im a backpacker so a little can make all the difference!). On checkout, they decided to change the price. This obviously was not something I budgeted for! With better staff the place could be great as apart from the loud music next door, the location is great. I would hope for more integrity from the staff/perhaps better record keeping so they don’t just make up costs on checkout!
