Booked the female dorm for a night before an early airport run.  Its' fine and does what it says on the tin.  The hostel was quiet so no atmosphere but not required for my stay.   The dorm a little bit tired but sheets clean and  a large lockable locker which was helpful as could throw the backpack in when I went for food.  Didn't look at all like the pics posted below but I only saw the one dorm.  Local food places across the road and the pick up was well organised so no complaints.  Rating based on decor really.

Easy access to airport

Stayed at Hangover Hostels for my last night befor catching a flight the next morning. Hospitality was great! As it was not busy they could give me an upgrade to a female dorm for the same price which is always nice. The manager Ruchintha was very friendly and organized an affordable tuc tuc to the airport for me. Breakfast was included and very tasty. We had good conversations while watching the sunset on the roof top terrace in the evening. I can highly recommend this hostel. Left a good last impression about Sri Lankan hospitality before leaving the country.

I had a disturbing incident on Saturday 8th February with a staff member at Negombo Airport Hangover Hostel. The staff member who was working has once before, as well as this occasion, made me feel uncomfortable when checking me into the unoccupied female dorm room by standing unnecessarily too close to me and for too long.

After showing me to my dorm bed this time I asked if my bed selection could be changed. The staff member said it could be changed and left the room to change the key card. As I was already wary of his behaviour, I chose to make a tea in the kitchen so I wasn’t alone in the room when he returned with the new keycard.
I watched from the kitchen as the staff member returned into the room, and shut the door behind him. I then sat on the bench with my tea waiting for him to exit the room, but he didn’t. He proceeded to stay hiding behind the door in the room for 5 minutes. I would hope there is recorded CCTV in the hallway/common area that can confirm this. I assume he thought I was in the bathroom and was waiting for me to exit into the room.
Male staff members should not be in a female dorm room to begin with, they ESPECIALLY should not close the door behind them when they enter, and there was absolutely NO reason for him to stay in there for 5 minutes waiting for me. When I approached the door to ask him what he was doing I could see through the crack in the door that he was hiding behind there and was startled when I quickly opened the door onto his back. He had no explanation other than that he was ‘looking for me behind the door’. 
My assumption is he was going to ‘try his luck’ and this is so far from ok and I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. 

A warning to other female travellers ⚠️ 

We stayed at Hangover Hostels in Negombo for two nights. The staff (Angelo) was really good at giving us advice regarding what to do in Negombo and how to transfer to our next hotel. The accommodation was very nice as well - clean, new and had a good air condition. Would totally recommend this place! 

Hangover Hostels Nigombo 

The property is very near to the airport so if you are having flight arriving at night time you can stay here at affordable price and went ahead. Also the rooms and toilets are very clean with ambient environment

Best for transit

..... would I stay here. Let alone hungover. Gross!  Paid in advance for a private room. As soon as they let me in I was knocked back by the smell. Mold all over the walls, on top of the walls being extremely dirty. The bathroom had dead cockroaches all over it and leaves, sticks, dirt in the shower. I sat on the bed and about 50 mosquitoes jumped up. No. Just no. 
I asked for another room, and it was in the same condition. I asked if the dorm was any cleaner and was told, “not really.”  I left.

Not even if I was drunk....

I recommend this place for travelers who are just arriving\ leaving Sri Lanka. The hostel is located very close to the airport and to the 18th post junction which buses from Kandy go by. The beds were comfy and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Not much to do or eat around the hostel, but you can hop on a bus to inner Negombo for more options.

Efficient and comfy stay before departure

Ok, I stayed in their Hostel (with the same name) at Ella and an exceptional experience, so I chose to stay here one night before I left. When I called the gentleman at the reception to ask for directions, he would refuse to say a simple hello, I was on the highway in a Tuk Tuk on a the phone repeatedly hello hello hello to a person who refused to speak until the third hello. Then comes the dorm, the toilet was dirty, the light was not working and the door wouldn’t close. Unlike the other hostel the other people staying in the dorm were so so noisy at 6 am., there were no signs asking the clients to maintain silence (unlike the other hostel). Then comes the airport drop, I paid 300 LKR for a 2 km Tuk Tuk ride, to drop me to the airport when I was checking in, little did I know that the guy Tuk Tuk won’t drop me all the way inside the airport (less than 2km) and I have to walk all the way inside with my bags and lites was rushing in as I was supposed to be at the airport  3 hours prior. I would have ordered a pick me cab had I known this earlier.  Why wouldn’t they inform??!! this is the way they make money. The hostel was filled with mosquitoes. will never be staying here. Horrible experience on the last day of a wonderful trip.

Terrible Experience 

With quite a lengthy journey ahead we thought hangover hostel would be a nice place pull up a stump, crack a tin and unwind from the voyage, to say the least. Knowing the journey would have many ups and downs we specifically requested the hostel have 2 ice cold beers upon arrival. Needless to say, we were informed that the hangover hostel does not supply any alcoholic beverages and it sickens me to think another lonely traveller will also get the wool pulled over there eyes with the childish play on words ‘hangover hostel’ used to advertise. We showed up to no beers, resulting of course in no hangover.
