Please read to the end:
This is the first time I have ever left a bad review as a traveler. Traveled all over the world and of course have run into not so pleasant or ideal situations, however what i experienced at The Terranova Inn I still can not comprehend.
Made a reservation 1 month in advance for 1 night, and accompanied it with an email that expressed joy and gratitude for having 24 hour check-in, noting that I would be arriving at the hotel at 4am. 
I also called Booking.com to confirm my early arrival would be ok. They called the Terranova Inn( while I was on the telephone line) to confirm. I was told to rest assure.
Upon my arrival at 4am I was told that they do not have a room available for me. That they allowed the guest that was staying in what was meant to be my room, to extend her stay and she would not be checking out until later that day. 
The caretaker at the Inn called the manager on speaker phone. Without them knowing I could understand their language, he proceeded to say nasty things and told the caretaker to tell me to LEAVE! 
The rest gets complicated with my taxi driver fortunately coming back and finding out the situation, then totally having my back. Despite showing them the email conversation from a month ago, the manager/owner persisted in not taking responsibility and persisted in asking me to leave.
I was stranded at 4:30am on a dirt road in Negombo with no cash yet and no cell phone service. 
I have never been treated so poorly before. No semblance of an apology at all.  No hospitality to help fix the situation. I still can't believe how this scenario went down. Thank goodness for my taxi driver who shelled out money, drove around for an hour and a half to find a guesthouse or hotel with an available room. 
DO NOT STAY AT THE TERRANOVA INN
So many other places where you can stay. 

WORST PLACE

WiFi didn't work.

We arranged with the staff to get a airport transfer and it never arrived so we had to arrange another one ourselves or miss our flight. 

But the worst was that the staff held a party that went on most of the night, very loud and impossible to sleep. If they had told us when we arrived we would have gone elsewhere but there was no communication at all. 

We were promised welcome drinks that never happened. We were promised afternoon tea that never happened. 

When we left the place was a mess and nobody was around to check out with or to secure another way to the airport. 

If you want to sleep don't stay here

Small but sweet; The Terranova Inn is a little gem in Negombo, and despite the fact that was the first residence  during my week long stay in Sri Lanka; It remained the benchmark for which I could compare to the other 4 hotels I stayed in.

Situated in Negombo which is not too dissimilar from where I live in the coastal village of Grand Bay in Mauritius; I could easily make like to like comparisons with the latter.
I wouldn't really say that it is a hotel, and I hope it doesn't claim to be one. 
The advantage of inns is that they accommodate very few clients but this is an advantage as the service is customized to suit either holidaying families or backpackers.
Very good customer service. Good Hospitality, Nice Room with very comfortable rooms. Very clean bathrooms. The owner, Shayhan is a very accommodating person who incidentally learnt his trade in Mauritius.
Breakfast is not the continental type but that's no problem as there are many restaurants down the road, especially Scandic restaurant 150m away.
Safe area and especially recommended. Look no further !

Best way to start one's trip to Sri Lanka

After a long flight got a taxi to the hotel. Staff where great and the room was fantastic place to get rid of Jet Lag. 
Room was a good size, comfortable bed and good shower. 
Will use again if in the area.
