We were the only guests so had this marvellous colonial property to ourselves. We were looked after like family by the charming staff who could not do enough for us. The food was of a high standard , the room spacious, stylish , clean and comfortable and the location perfect. 

Home from home

My travelling companion and I enjoyed the experience of staying in a Dutch Colonial residence. As we walked in from the street through the living and dining rooms we were impressed by the decor and the collection of paintings by Senaka Senanayake.
The upstairs master bedroom was both stylish and very comfortable.
The staff were attentive and we appreciated their help in suggesting some sightseeing options including a trip to the beach.

Colonial comfort in historic Galle.

We loved our night at number 50. As the only guests that day, we had the entire property to ourselves. Steeped in history and full of character, yet right in the heart of Galle Fort, the large air conditioned rooms were a welcoming retreat. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was just down the road in the main hotel.

Character and elegance in the heart of the fort

Fortaleza has a number of options in the old town of Galle and we loved staying in No 50.
Warm and professional welcome by the team - and the resident cat - at the main restaurant / property, then a 50m stroll to this beautiful old home, now stylish rooms. It’s like staying in a very posh friend’s house 😊. Wish we had pals like this st home 😉
Rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished and there’s a lovely sitting room and shady outdoor spot.
Meals - delicious and quite well priced - are at the Fortaleza Restaurant ... have the super fresh seafood 😊😊
This was a splendid treat to a fabulous holiday in Sri Lanka ... highly recommended .

Beautiful find in the old town 

Great location and overall pleasant experience. Our room was very spacious, quiet and clean, all amenities were fine. Bathroom was very large and linen were nice as well. Breakfast was served on a separate premises and was ok.

Very nice stay in Galle

So i have stayed at a number of properties in the Fort over the years.  Lately i have stayed outside the Fort as I travel down the coast a bit and it's better to avoid the traffic. This time i had friends from Oz coming to Galle so we stayed in the Fort.

I was going to stay at the same place as my friends but they were full so i chose this place as it was very nearby and a similar standard.  It was a good choice.

I stayed in the front master balcony room.  Great layout - long room - big 4-poster bed with mozzie nets, large sofa and table in the middle with a comfy chair, good size TV with cable, then a large wardrobe with fridge.  Good sized bathroom, good light and overhead fan.  Main room has 2 fans plus an aircon which faces into the room - it doesn't blow directly onto the bed which i prefer.  The furnishings and decor are excellent - classy.  Bed is comfortable with good pillows which are on the softer side. Good hot water and pressure.

Service is very good with staff always available downstairs.  The villa has a large common lounge room as you enter with a large dining room next door before you go through to the back where the rooms are - it is a long narrow property with only 4 rooms i think.

Breakfast was at the main Fortaleza property just down the road - a lovely space and the breakfast options were pretty good - good quality with tasty wholegrain toast.

There is no pool which can be handy after a long day of touristing but the room and the villa are a real oasis - very quiet.

Highly recommended.

Excellent oasis in the middle of the Fort

I booked this hotel from reading reviews at Tripadvisor.

What a wonderful place to stay. The place has ambiance, rooms are super clean and very nicely appointed.
The restaurant is like a courtyard with tons of character, free wifi.
Breakfast is a la carte and was fantastic.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is travelling to Sri Lanka to see the Dutch Fort!!!!!
