I was greeted like a friend and immediately immersed in the family atmosphere here at the camp. The whole team is so open-hearted and didn't make me feel like just another guest among many, but rather a part of the wonderful community for the time I spent here.
What a pleasure to be welcomed with a fresh drinking-coconut to recover from the journey. During the friendly and uncomplicated check-in, I was given all the information about the day's activities at the camp.
My accommodation in the private double room was so comfortable, spacious, and always super clean.
The camp offers various packages, such as balanced packages or options depending on whether the focus should be more on surfing or yoga according to your preferences. The camp is well-organized and tries to fulfill all your wishes.
When you check in, you will receive the yoga schedule and can choose from a varied program: slow flow, vinyasa, yin yoga, pranayama... All sessions are spread throughout the day and can be easily integrated into your daily routine. From early risers to restorative yoga in the evening, which is especially perfect after surfing to help recover your muscles.
Speaking of surfing, let me tell you more about the surf lessons!
Standing on the board for the first time immediately made me fall in love with surfing. After all the surf lessons with a professional instructor, I’m more than thrilled! The camp ensures that you always have the same instructor in small groups. You will be well looked after and always receive individual tips tailored to your surf level. I was able to learn a lot, not only about the practical technique itself but also about reading waves and judging direction, which makes me more and more independent. There are different theory lessons every evening, as well as a few practical exercises by the pool. You will also receive video analysis. The videos of your surf session will be watched and discussed with your instructor after dinner. Seeing yourself helps a lot to gain a deeper understanding of what you can still improve. You will be amazed at your own progress!
Every evening at the family dinner, I was enchanted by fantastic vegetarian food. I connected with people from all over the world, experienced inspiring conversations, and who knows, maybe I made new friends for life? And of course, don't forget the dessert!
All in all, "recommendable" seems to be a rather understated word for the time I spent here. Thank you, Surf & Yoga, for this amazing experience in my life. I already miss the daily camp routine and all the wonderful camp family I was able to meet!

The highlight of my trip to Sri Lanka

I stayed 2 weeks in Arugam Bay, 2 weeks independently renting my own room and getting  surf lessons from outside, and last week at the retreat. Few points to note if you’re planning to make a booking at  Surf & Yoga,

The price you pay at Surf & Yoga is EUR 45 per surf class which includes,

- Surf coaching for 2 hrs
- Transfer to any spot (except Light house beach which is a small addition of EUR 1.5 per person)
- Video filming (you get to keep the  footage) : even though your every  session is not filmed,
- Analysis of your videos by Surf & Yoga own video coach
- Daily surf theory classes after dinner (which helps your knowledge immensely).

When you book a surf class independently with an outside surf school,

- The lesson is usually 75 minutes
- The transfer cost is extra
- No video filming, analysis, or theory class

It’s true that you can find surf classes on the road ranging from EUR 15 to EUR 30 depending on the experience and the brand of the school.

Accommodation

Here you cannot expect any luxury, it’s a basic bungalow style room with no frills. Only luxury is their shimmering blue swimming pool which is a great place to meet others and talk after surf and watch the sundowns together,

In general, I find accommodation in Sri Lanka to be quite expensive compared to Thailand and Bali for example, especially in flash packing category.

I paid EUR 25 for a simple en-suite single room in a small homestay with fan (no  AC) and no meals included which was nice. In comparison, I paid EUR 60 for a single en-suite AC room with breakfast (superb and great choice), brunch (can be repetitive if you stay more than a  week), and dinner (freshly made, I loved it, this place is heaven for vegan and vegetarians). Some guests who love meat ate out some days especially lunch.

Staff

Very friendly (and funny) especially Kusal who was our video surf coach. All staff are smiling and willing to have a conversation  with you anytime.

Overall, I found Surf & Yoga to be truly a place to meet and connect with people, watch sunsets together, a great value for money all inclusive retreat. I would rate is 8.5/10.

Best Surf progress, relaxing Yoga Sessions - A place to be with dreamy views & magical food & vibes

I was nervous about travelling on my own but I needn’t had worried. I had a lovely welcome when I arrived. I had a good chat with the manager who explained how the place works - surfing, breakfast, dinner etc.  I had an air con room, clean and cool.  
The food was next level! I was so impressed with the standard of the food and as all the guests eat dinner at the same time, it’s really easy to make friends. 
I would highly recommend this place and I’m hoping to come back.

Excellent place to stay

I stayed at surf & yoga for about 11 days and it was the best decision I have made on my 3 months of travel. The surf camp atmosphere made it easy to meet new people and everyone was so open and welcoming. As a solo traveler, there is always a question about finding people to surf, explore etc with and at surf and yoga, there was no shortage of that. 
In addition to the great atmosphere contributed to by our great hosts Daisy and Chaira, the food was some of the best I had while in Sri Lanka. From the amazing fresh fruit at breakfast to the elaborate dinners (including dessert), the food blew me away. 
The camp pairs up with two different local surf shops, Amigos and dylans. I did surf guiding with the amigos shop and could not speak better about them. My instructor, Babu, was not only a phenomenal surfer but also one of the best teachers. After my time, I felt like my surfing had increased exponentially. 
When I come back to Sri Lanka, I will no question stay at surf and yoga again! 

Counting down the days until I can return 

This place is like a beautiful Oasis in Arugam Bay, the camp is a little bit from the main street but everything is still so close. The food is delicious, the people amazing and the surf is top quality! Will for sure be back again. 

Beautiful place! 

Great atmosphere and extremely nice people! Very helpful and always friendly.
You don’t have to worry about anything because they will take care of it and are always available (room cleaning, surf transfer, free Time activities etc.) 
Basic accommodation but it’s fine as you only sleep and shower there. Everything is clean and comfy beds. The camp is off the Main Street, so it’s very quiet but still you walk there in 2 min, so perfect location! 

The food is really outstanding, especially the vegan dinners! Breakfast was really great to with a big choice, always fresh and amazing fruits.

Time schedule of surf and yoga could be optimized (and as we understood, will be) e.g. when you go surfing in the afternoon, you can’t participate in the afternoon yoga session.

Great surf schools they collaborate with! We were surfing with Dylan’s and they were really great teachers (special thanks to Jacco!). Video analysis with Amigos was also very helpful, though unfortunately it was not every day for us (partially due to the weekend when the camera guy had his day off). 

Great atmosphere, kind people and insanely good food! 

Amazing place, it is located in center, but still in a peaceful area surrounded by nature with lots of places to chill in a hammock with a good book. The food is really delicious, healthy and varied. I can only recommend this surf camp.

Thank you for the beautiful moments. We really enjoyed our stay at the camp and will definitely come back again! Stayed there for 3 weeks and have nothing complain. The location is near from the center and the beach but still in a quiet and calm place.

amazing 3 weeks

Not sure where to start. When I entered the property, what took my breakaway is the garden, so much room to move, many trees, wind blowing through the paddy fields, dogs playing around, and beautiful smiles all around. I will leave the rest for your imagination :)

Be ready to extend your stay!

I was nervous travelling as a solo traveller for the first time but the team at Surf and Yoga immediately made me feel like I was part of the family, at my home away from home. 

The camp is situated on beautiful open grounds with vast views where the nature is right on your doorstep. I personally loved the monkeys! 

My days always began with the most delicious and nutritious breakfast made by Madu. I am a notoriously fussy eater but the team were so kind and accommodated all of my dietary requirements no questions asked, this went for dinner too which was equally as varied and scrumptious after a packed day. 

I filled my time with surfing, learning the basics from the coaches really helped me improve my technique and  im already itching to get back in the sea! I loved coming back and unwinding with some yoga. 

All in all I  had the most unforgettable experience at surf and yoga Arugam bay, I've made friends I will never forget, learnt new skills and most importantly made memories to last a lifetime!
