We arrived here by chance and it turned out amazing. Stuff is super nice and friendly, very helpful! If u need something just ask. We were lucky we got a room at top floor with an super view from the common terrace lounge. The room was clean, spacious with private restroom. Everything was perfect! Highly recommended!!

Nice surprise

The location is great - Habarana is a great base to explore from and not very touristy. The place itself wasn't particularly clean, though the food was good. The owner was a little pushy and kept offering to take us around in his tuk-tuk. Though he knew the area well and offered good rates, we felt a little pressured into following his itinerary rather than our own. Having said that, we did manage to see everything we planned to and more, but a slightly less direct approach would have suited us better.

Mixed feelings

As we got off the bus from Trincomalee a tuk-tuk driver approached us and asked if we needed help.  We gave him our criteria and he took us to the guest house around the corner from the main street.

It was very quiet, spotlessly clean and it had a lovely open balcony outside our room where we could sit and rest with a cool breeze.

Our hosts didn't speak much English but we had no problems communicating with them.  They were very polite and friendly.

It was located close to town so we could walk to dinner and we also walked to a lake nearby to watch the sunset.

The reason we stayed in Habarna was to visit Kudulla National Park to see the elephants.  Our tuk-tuk driver helped arrange this for us too.

We paid 21,000 LKR  for a family of 5 for a 3-hour jeep ride from town.  We left at 3.30pm and arrived at the perfect time to see about 80 elephants grassing and bathing.  We also watched as they walked between all the jeeps to get to the fresh grass on the other side of us.  Utterly spectacular!

Our tuk-tuk driver also arranged a tour for us to Sigiria to climb Pidurangala Rock for 2,000 LRK.  We also drove around Lion rock and visited a spice garden where we all got massages for a small donation of $2 NZD each.

We choose Pidurangala Rock because it was significantly less expensive than Lion rock and much, much less crowded.  We also had a wonderful view across to Lion rock from the top.  We paid 1,500 LKR  to climb this rock.  To climb Lion rock would have cost us 21,000 LKR.

Very friendly and everything that we needed

Never go here! When we arrived no one was there, the guy who brought us to the hotel had to call the owner to speak to him. The view is beautiful but there are lots of mosquitoes. The hot water and the wifi did not work, the blankets were not clean. The next morning we saw the owner for the first time, the first thing he said to us was that we had to ckeck out immediately. (It was 8 in the morning ) we first wanted to have a look around and then ckeckout. When we came back there was no one in the hotel and the power and was cut off. Not a nice end of our stay in Habarana.

Owner extremely rude

Rude staff that make you think breakfast is included when it's not and then try to charge you 700r for some toast. Wifi didn't work in room, very dirty rooms with other people's soap still in the room, and spiderwebs etc. no towels or blankets provided so we were freezing through the night. Also staff were never there so couldn't ask about anything. Only good thing is the view.
