Shocked to see such a once nice place in disrepair,  I've since found out that these apartments were destroyed by immigrants housed during covid times who subsequently destroyed the whole complex from what local say beds and tvs were thrown from the balcony such a shame a complex like this has to be rebuilt

Having just returned from a 7 night stay I have to say the apartments have some good and bad points.  Firstly the bad points the location, the surrounding street is filthy with dog mess mostly on the road but also on the pavements and steps down to the centre.  There are sun loungers beside the pool but these are hard plastic with no covers - they need to replace with proper modern loungers which are comfortable.  When I first arrived I went towards my apartment but the lobby area was in darkness and I banged into a fire hose box which you cannot see in the dark, a definite safety hazard.  In addition if you want a kettle you have to pay a refundable 10 euro deposit - the same for the TV control though not worth bothering as no British channels.  The good point apartment kept very clean and towels replaced regularly though the towels not really great at drying you.    It was quiet at night though but I don't think I'll be back at these apartments.

carlota basic but clean

Good value, excellent cleaning, obliging staff, good value restaurent with great take aways. Close to town centre and new mall. Shortage of sun light on balconies only drawback but afternoons on pool area is ok.

Good value & location

we booked the Carlota with Booking.Com, there was no free cancellation (this is something I will double check on future bookings) the money was taken immediately from my credit card and when I received the bill the money was paid into a Dutch bank account therefore I also had to pay a non sterling transaction fee. we were a late arrival 12:30am I emailed the hotel and booking.com to advise of arrival time, when we arrived the doors were locked and we were unable to gain access, the phone numbers to phone posted on the door did not contain the spanish code 0034 we found this out 2 hours later as I had to go into Puerto Rico to ask the police for help, we were kept awake all night by multiple dogs barking from neighboring properties day and night, there is a man with long grey hair and beard who takes 3 dogs out in the early hours to a small parcel of land opposite the hotel and allows his dogs to pooh there and makes no attempt to clear it up we even seen it on the pavement and when you walk past during the day the smell is abhorrent, I understand that this is outside of the hotels control however they are aware of the problem and should be working with the authority's to stop it. The morning after our arrival I paid a refundable deposit and fee for a safe also 10 euros for a kettle from the receptionist whom I believe is Rosa, on departure I handed the kettle back expecting to get my 10 euros deposit returned this was refused because Rosa had not issued me with a receipt, the cleaners did a good job trying to clean the outdated place and they were all pleasant also Antonio was always nice and pleasant there was always plenty of hot water however I would never return to this hotel and I most definitely would not recommend it.

Avoid this dump, we had several terrible experiences.

Just home after a weeks stay here. We were late checking in and Antonio the night Porter was there, absolute gem of a man, funny polite and extremely helpful. Older apartments but everything was spotless. 
Like my title says "cheap and cheerful",so remember this when you are booking, if it's five star luxury you want it's best you book somewhere else, but if you want clean friendly and cheap then book the Carlota. I will definitely stay again.

Cheap and cheerful

This place is an old disaster waiting to happen. The front door lock broke while we were there and we found ourselves locked outside on two occassions at 3am in the morning and this was after reporting the lock being broken. There was absolutely no communication from the Carlota to the residents and many were also locked out. The lift broke twice. There was also an electricity outage and again this happened with no communication to the residents. We were 12 hours overnight without electricity. Many of the sun beds by the pool were old and broken and there were very few umbrellas. No 24 hour reception and they charge 100 euros deposit (which you get back when you are leaving) to cover breakages - sure most things are already broken. Talk about Fawlty Towers! It's 99 steps up and down from the main centre. At least it will keep you physically fit. But for mental fitness, just don't go there. Cleaning staff very good and do a good job as does the lady on reception when she is there.

Dump, avoid it at all costs

took the leap and booked a week here  - its budget and basic
most of the hotels in the area are on the side of mountains so steep walk back when out. The hotel is across from the strip of bars, food places and shops so expect to hear noise from early evening until 4am every night!
from 5am you'll hear the traffic 
would have been good to have a parasol on the balcony as its full sun from mid morning. No air con but leaving door open gave a breeze.
sun loungers get occupied early and Spanish people leave towels etc whilst going for siesta.
water was cut off for almost a day so unable to shower :( had to fetch extra water from the bottom....now i know how jack and jill felt!!! 
spoke to others who really staying at carlota but not for me - would choose a hotel closer to the beach (walk from hotel is a good 15 minutes) - there is no noise from the evening nightlife

budget and noisy

We stayed last July and booked again for 10 nights for the end of June.  Just returned on Tuesday following a great time.  All staff very good and best of all no reserving of sun beds so even at lunchtime could always find one.  Yes, you can hear the music until 4am but you have to expect that being so close to the centre.
We are returning in September for 11 night and so looking forward to it.

2nd Vist and booked again

We stayed at this hotel last year, loved it that much we stayed again this year. Amazing value for money! Yes it’s a budget hotel, so you need to have the right expectations, but the rooms are sparkling clean, the kitchens are all getting re-furbs whilst we were there (ours had been done) there’s plenty of space etc, swimming pool is nice and the bar friendly. Fantastic location near to restaurants/shops, and a nice 20 min walk to the nicer beach (there is a closer one too). We entered the challenge Gran Canaria triathlon and it was within an easy distance of the event. 
Definitely recommended. 

Brilliant value for money 

Just got back from 9 nights at Carlota. The location is great. Only a hundred steps to climb up from the commercial centre, which is really good for Puerto Rico. The apartment was a bit dated but tidy. Nice views from the big balcony.
Now for the bad points.
Lots of reviews say you can request a high floor room. We did this via email well in advance and when we arrived. We were still given a low floor room. We asked to change rooms 3 times. Each time we were told there were no spare rooms. We queried this as there were lots of keys on the hooks, and the very rude receptionist explained that they were awaiting cleaning and all the maids had the day off. This turned out to be a lie. We went back the following morning and she told us "still no rooms" and walked off! I doubt reception would help you with anything.
We had our room cleaned only 3 times in 9 days and didn't get the bed changed at all. Not nice.
There are builders stripping out the kitchens and plaster 1 room at a time. They start with electric hammer tools and circular saws shortly after 8am each day. It is very noisy.
At the start of May none of the rooms, even the high floor ones get any sun until after 11am.
Because of the lack of maid service and general cleaning around the hotel, there were cockroaches. I have included pictures with my review of the building work and one of the huge cockroaches left in the corridor dead for 2 days!
This wasn't the hotels fault though it is worth mentioning, next door but one are some private flats where 3 dogs are locked outside all day and night. They bark loudly for long periods of time during the day and throughout the night.
It was cheap, but definitely worth in future spending a few extra pounds to stay in one of the far nicer hotels just up the road.
I don't normally write bad reviews or even reviews this long, and we are not fussy people, but this hotel is the pits and we have complained to Expedia who we booked with.
