This place is not the pics. It is now a dated place, not clean, cockroaches, poor cleaning staff, sauna , squash or club area - not accessible. permanently closed and not working. Garages ancient and do not lock.
Overall needs a massive refresh!

Cleaning staff do not know how to clean! bathroom still lefts with stains as they do not use a sponge to clean and worst of all used my own towel to wipe down the glass!  and my own toilet paper to wipe mirrors! where is their own cleaning material? bathroom smelt of urine when they left! which was not there when they arrived. probably  they  are using unclean cloths. superficial cleaning! tables were grimey when arived. toilets seat were still stained - blood spots !!!!!! 

no washing machines! 
clothes line  falling apart and rotten!!! carpets gone brown from never washed!!!
overall needs massive deep clean
grime on bathroom walls 
dim lights or does not work 
Tv in room does not work
No keys to open doors downstairs
just overall unpleasant experience.

shall I go on ? perhaps it will help the out of touch owners with a list of what needs to be cleaned fixed in apt.. 

also oven so scrubbed that one cannot see the Temperature or what option one can cook, bake or grill with the oven! disaster
extractor does not work  and no lights!!!

Dated and overpriced

We ended up coming to this resort because it was all the rest of our points could get us! Based on that we were not expecting too much. But what a pleasant surprise - the resort is well maintained, well run, well positioned and truly a little gem.
The units are contemporary, tastefully decorated and spacious. The beds and laundry linen are of a high standard and the unit is well equipped overall.
The unit (A2) we stayed in had reasonable sea views was close to most of the amenities in the complex - pool, sauna, jacuzzi, squash court and more.
The staff have been really friendly and helpful - nothing was too much for them.
Best of all - beach access is a breeze - must be no more than an 80 metre walk from the front gate. 
We will be back for sure!

Surprising little gem!

We enjoyed our stay at The Salamader. The rooms are clean, its close to amenities, the workers are friendly and Its a short walk to the beach. They need a new sauna though. The apartments where just renovated, so we where pleasantly surprised, as it was much better than we expected.

Pleasant

We took a family vacation at Salamander in July. This is a very clean resort with very good facilities. The apartment is spacious.  Big enough for 6 adults. 
Although the apartment is one row back from the beach, you do have a bit of a sea view. It is walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops. 
The staff is very friendly and helpful. 

Family friendly 

Umhlanga Rocks has been a favourite place of mine for quite a while and I normally reside at one of the resorts on the beachfront. This time however, I ended up at the Salamander. I was filled with a bit of trepidation as I had no idea what to expect. 
On arriving in the morning, I was greeted at the gate by the Entertainment manager who escorted me to my apartment. All I can say is: WoW! The place is spacious and has been recently refurbished. It had more than enough space for the five of us without anybody having to sleep in the lounge. The view was good. the amenities excellent and clean. The staff very friendly and helpful. This really a place that I would recommend to everybody. 
We had a great time!

A different place

We stayed here for a few nights. The service was good, everyone was really friendly. The apartment was also quite spacious, and they really have very nice facilities as well. Lastly, the resort is very centrally located, close to the old town centre
