If you like a place with outstanding view, friendly staff, warm and caring owners who make you feel like home and lots of animals to observe this is the place for you. And do not forget great food, clean rooms and a short drive from East London airport.

Excellent place

We were a family group of 12 just arrived for our SA holiday after an overnight flight from the UK. Outspan was the perfect place to spend our first four nights in the country soaking up the African bush atmosphere, recovering from the flight where no-one had slept very much, and getting fed some amazing meals!
The lodge is an a wonderful location at the head of its own private valley in the bush, but convenient for the main N2 road. Here it is built on the very edge of a spectacular gorge. It is located on a game ranch so it is possible to see various antelope species. The birdwatching from the lodge was very good, including Cape vulture, crowned eagle, and a jackal buzzard nest easily viewed from the deck of the dining room.
The owners and their staff could not have been more helpful. We opted for DB&B. and are glad we did as the food was superb, and represented exceptional value. Most meals were based around game from the farm - I strongly recommend the kudu steaks in particular!
We went a walk down the valley one day to enjoy the peace of the bush. Various walks are available around the property.
Four nights was a good length of stay for us - much longer and the children might have been hankering after a pool etc. But as it was, they enjoyed it as much as the adults.
The lodge is about one hour driving time from East London airport.

Fantastic place to unwind

What a wonderful surprise to get to a nice clean and welcoming stop 
The hosts are amazing and very helpful . Nice brekki before we left . The view is insane and a bonus we got to see some game on our way out . Definitely well worth it ! 

Over night stay

The daughters wanted an authentic break during our long road trip & they both agreed that this looked like a good stop. We again asked for 3 adjacent rooms, close to the dining room for Dad & having space to relax. 
We were fortunate that our 2 night stay was between large parties so we had the luxury of having the lodge to ourselves. 
The setting is lovely with a beautiful lodge & deck facing the huge cliffs opposite. We booked a game drive which afforded us the opportunity to explore a little further than walking range. 
The decor is a traditional game lodge & after supper, a generous fire was lit so we could relax, chat & play games in the main space. 
The hosts are about but they are happy to not intrude ...

A fabulous game farm experience

The lodge is oriented toward hoofed animal hunters but is open to all. Access is over a dirt 4 mile road. iYour comfortable room will be 30 feet from a 600 foot cliff. The owner and his college educated daughter and several employees make you feel like home in the large lodge. dinner was very good. Your are in a lightly populated tribal drylands. It represents a real adventure

Remote Beautiful Adventure

The place is in the middle of nowhere among the mountains, what a view... but it did make my knees weaken! We truly enjoyed our stay in the peacefulness nature, the owner made us feel very welcome, prepared a great steak, chips and salad dinner for us and left us freely to help ourselves to the bar! Which we did not abuse of course. Our lodge was comfortable and clean. The wonderful birds from the area sang a beautiful melody for in the morning.
