I found it so breathtaking to see all the beautiful places in Durban and as someone who love to travel TripAdvisor it's the best. And you can everything using your phone no need to run around and ask just at the tip of your hands .

Accomodation

Firstly the road has been renamed Lena Ahrens and no longer  Manning - which gave our Garmin a bit of a problem.  It seems to be one of the very few, centrally located B&B's that we could find that one could ACTUALLY contact directly without booking first.  Everything else was through Booking.com and Trivgo which is all book first then contact later, some of which places have a non-refundable monetary arrangement.  Not much good if can't cater to some special need - as in our case -  and booking at short notice.   

Ok, don't believe the pretty room and patio pictures on the website.   As with other reviews, the place needs some serious TLC in places, particularly electrics (non-working beside light, no cover on bathroom light fitting and  bathroom ceiling mouldy and coving falling off.     That being said the room and linen was clean, there were, what seemed to be, relatively new curtains and rail  at the patio door/window, and the aircon and TV worked.  No Fridge. Never used the kettle to know if working but also supplied tea, coffee & creamer.  Clean towels and two tubes of liquid soap plus soap bar supplied.  Free in room wi-fi. Told breakfast was at 7 am, but decided to leave earlier.  However seems that they can arrange a basic earlier breakfast as a bunch of staying workmen were tucking into generous portions of scrambled egg and  a surprising lovely lamb sausage at 6 a.m.    The owner might also be interested to know that they were also fully supplying their lunch needs with lots & lots of  jam sandwiches and filling their own juice bottles up!   Full breakfast buffet only starts at 7am.  Besides roadside garages, more car parking for about 6 - 7 cars also available by going up side of B&B.  Guard on duty.   It's Halaal and says no alcohol allowed, although someone in one of the rooms had put a black label bottle outside the door on the common patio, so not being adhered to.    If you don't expect too much then it's OK for a short stay.  We stayed in room one, which had one double bed, one single and basic two chairs.  Outside on patio (which has a permanently on electric fence beyond railing)  was a table and a further two chairs.  View of sea at docks. Did not see or use pool to know about state of it, but list of do's and don't about use in reception.

Dont believe the website pictures, but it's not all bad as the reviews make it out

Property is in a nice section of Durban.  However the property is not maintained well.  The first room we went to had no outlets working properly. Our second room was better but the appearance of the rooms is dingy.  Internet is weak and one has to leave the room to get a signal.  Breakfast is passable but little details seem to have been forgotten. It would be nice to have Durban tourist information but none.   We were able to leave our luggage due to late checkout.  However, I would stay in another property with more amenities and upkeep should I return to ara.

Nice location  fair bnb

When booking, I was sold on the location and reasonable price. But I wish I had taken a closer look at the reviews!

Honestly expected better from a BnB at this location. The view of Durban and the harbour is wasted on this establishment. 

I stayed in a double/twin room. Average at best. The bed sheets barely fit the double bed. No attention paid to decor. Very little sense of comfort. The finishes all look cheap. It's not dirty...but it looks dingy. And my room smelled like stale smoke or damp. 

Leaky bathroom tap. Shower temperature is super hard to control and fluctuates from searing to freezing at the slightest turn of the taps. In the hallway outside the room, there was something (an alarm?) that beeped incessantly and made rest difficult. In general, this just seems like such a loud place. Constant movement in the hallway between the rooms the door doesn't provide any kind of sound dampening. 

Just...meh. And a great pity. This location deserves better. Budget accommodation doesn't have to be bad accommodation.

In a nutshell: this is a place to sleep and nothing more. Was not inspired to use the deck or hang around and enjoy the views. 

Sadly, I do not reccomend this place unless you're on a tight budget and just need a place to sleep in passing through   



Disappointing 

As someone who has lived in the area before I had high hopes for this place because it looked so prim and proper from the outside and online...

Here are a list of things of WHY NOT to book here. 

1.When we booked online an option to request a crib was given but upon arrival they seemed very confused and said they don't offer them.

2.One of the single bed was of such poor quality it sinks when you sit. 

3.The single beds had no duvet covers just the inner and sheets 

4.Bathrooom sink didn't have a stopper 

5. There was no hot water in the evening

6.There was no water in the morning. When we called reception to find out what was wrong they told us they knew that there was no water and could not explain why they didn't have the courtesy of letting their guests know. 

7.We were told breakfast was at 7...we waited until 07h35 and when 3 questioned them about the time delay no apology was made. They didn't seem bothered 

8. They allow smoking in the building which supposedly child friendly 

9.There is a filthy sink in the hallway with dirty water and cigarette buds 

10. The coffee mugs were not washed and replaced in our room. Found them still with the coffee we'd left in them.

Looks can be deceiving

Booked a room for a couple coming down for a night.i paid in full upfront and received a printout of booking.Informed them the guests would arrive late on Saturday night and would check out early sunday morning.
When they arrived to check in, nothing on their system for the booking. Wasted 30min and frustrated the guests. They eventually just gave a refund of the full amount with no urgency in the matter and didnt make arrangements to accommodate the guests. We had to them call around and eventually booked them in another hotel in Umhlanga about 2 hours later.
After several heated conversations with the B&B and possibly the owner they offer(at the same time we were in checking in at the new hotel)at a discount to get the guests another room at one of their other facilities.

Overall poorly run, poor service and and as much as the location is nice.. probably not worth the risk of booking.

Poor poor poor

The rooms are dirty, as in the sheets are stained, the curtains has a brown colouring, the bathroom smells like vomit and the floors are full of dirt. There is no hotel service and the food is off. I honestly won't recommend this B&B. I felt like we would stay in filth. 

Disgusting 

see the other reviews , they are true. Door to room had been forced several times. electric Sockets were broken, garage doors were a death trap with bare electric cables and broken switches. The only thing i can really say was i was glad to leave 

Run down, smelly and dangerous

This is one of the times I did not read the TripAdvisor reviews but booked on Booking.com where there was no mention of how awful this place is.

It looks charming and well run from the outside but I can guarentee it is rotting from the inside. Extremely disappointing.

There was mould in the showers, horrible marks on the walls, the door was broken, sheets are old and torn (but thankfully clean), Extremely noisy and LOTS OF COCKROACHES!

Breakfast was an absolute joke. Many guests piled their plates and when asked to prepare more there was none left.

Although the staff are ever so helpful... honestly the nicest. I am sure the owners of this establishment should be aware that they are not putting enough money back into it.
