I really liked a way their reception took care of my issues. It was pretty late when I arrived in the hotel but I still got my tasty dinner in my room. Impressive! I really mean it! Things will get better and you will thrive!

Worth staying

We did not really stay in this hostel but we had a real bad experience as well, as we were a group of 5 people doing the trainsiberian route from Moscow to Beijing and we needed to go from Ulan Ude to UlaanBaatar via bus. Scanning the net we had found the possibility to use the bus tickets booking service offered by this hostel that was supposed to buy the tickets for us. Indeed, around 2/3 months in advance, each one of us had sent his own passport data and 35 euros circa via PayPal for booking the service. We, naturally,planned our trip assured by the awareness of having a reservation.
Unfortunately, just 3 days before getting to Ulan Ude, we were informed via mail that our tickets were not available as "some group had booked all of them". We had suddenly to change our plans in order not to ruin our tour and we lost two hostel reservations (one of which paid in advance) and went through a severe collection of inconveniences so as to be able to reach UlanBaatar in time for getting our prepaid tour to Gobi.
The end of the story is that we asked for, at least, a total refund of the tickets, but nowadays, after almost 2 months, nothing was sent at all. Bad communication, bad organization, great disappointment. I hope the refund could be sent promptly.

Booking fail

The guy in charge makes sure the hostel is tidy and comfortable.  You can feel he cares about the place and customers.  The hostel is a real nice place, in a strategic location.  

He can also provide bus tickets to Mongolia.  

TIP: Do reserve bus tickets well in advance. Don’t expect to find a seat for the day or day after as locals do use the bus a lot.  (It’s 70% cheaper than the train).

Best of The Best helping hostel in Ulan Ude.

We didn‘t stay at the hostel but booked the tickets of the bus from Ulan Ude to Ulan Bator via uuhostel.com. At first I wasn‘t sure if it was trustworthy since we needed to make a second payment and I expected that the tickets would be sent to us by email and I never got anything. Finally I was informed that we need to pick up the tickets at the hostel. The tickets were easy to pick up, nicely prepared to us, the staff very friendly and English speaking and the atmosphere at the hostel seemed very nice.

Ticket service for bus to Mongolia

This hostel provides a bus ticket service. I forgot to send my ID copy and no bus ticket was bought for me, SO DON’T FORGET TO DO THIS!

In principle this is my own fault, however, the communication was very poor and disappointing. No email was send to me that my ID copy was missing. When my girlfriend emailed about the bus tickets 2 days in advance since we had not heard anything they asked for my ID, which we shared immediately. Thereafter we didn’t hear anything again from the hostel. Also not on a reminder email from us. 

When we showed up to collect the tickets they booked a ticket for my girlfriend but not for me. 

The bus was full and we crossed the border by hitchhiking in the end. Which turned out to be a good alternative (and interesting experience) luckily.

Bus ticket service - don’t forget to send your ID copy!!

Anastasia runs this place perfectly, she is really warm, loves her job and will answer to any question or issue that may rise. This really contributes to create that particular atmosphear that every hostel should have .. and that helps everyone feeling at home even if you're in the other side of the world. More than a hostel a real travellers house! Thanks again Anastasia! Is the second time I sleep here and if it ever happens again to stay in Ulan Ude I will for sure come back.

more than a simple hostel...

I used Ulan Ude Travelers House to book bus tickets from Ulan Ude to Ulaanbaatar. Their service was prompt and professional, and the advance booking allowed for me to better plan my trip in advance. Their receipt for my bus ticket purchase was also sufficient departure proof for my Russia visa application. They are located in the center of town, and really walking distance to most great restaurants and sights within the city. In addition, the staff were very helpful and concerned when I had to deal with a ripoff taxi driver on our trip from the train station.
