It's so odd, I was recommended this hotel by a travel agent in Irkutsk and when I looked online was horrified by the awful reviews. So much so that we almost cancelled the booking and looked elsewhere. 

I'm do glad we didn't as this was one of the best hotel stays we've had in our three-month travels. 

We were collected for free at the ferry arrivals by the girl on duty and couldn't believe what a cosy, homely little spot this was. Clearly they have taken on all the bad reviews and in the last couple of months had a complete renovation. The room was immaculately clean and had recently had new carpets put in and the beds were spotless and dust-free. The bathroom had underfloor heating, a spotless sink and power shower and little packets of soap and shower gel. 

Best of all was the banya – the onsite sauna and plunge pool house – which you can privately hire for an hour for up to six people for around $40 I think? We had it to ourselves and spent a good hour dashing back and forth from the sauna where you get branches to massage each other, into the icy plunge pool which is filled with water from the lake. 

The restaurant was great and we tried the local omul fish with onions and lemon and garlic and had a hearty plate of beef fillet and chips which was just what we wanted after a long day travelling around the lake. 

The wifi only works in the lobby, but if you want to get on wifi up in Lake Baikal then you're a bit weird as it's not really the place to be distracted by an iPhone or emails.

The only downside was the the rooms weren't exactly soundproof and a rowdy group was chatting just below our room when we went to bed but it wasn't a big deal and we slept pretty quickly, particularly after having the banya pre-bedtime.

I feel awful that Terema has such bad reviews as they have obviously gone out of their way to overhaul the place and it really is lovely now. Give them a chance and stay here, you really won't regret it.

Excellent stay in lovely hotel

Clean, serene and off the beaten path. Room is spacious, airy and lots of amenities are provided. Getting here requires a car (or other private transportation). The rooms are accessed via many steps, so not accessible. Nevertheless, if you're in the area, it is worth consideration.

Charming

The hotel is very nice but quite far from the market. Beautiful scenery of the village could be seen from the balcony.

The room was very clean and all facilities were in good condition.
Breakfast was basic and fine.

Free wifi was provided but unfortunately the connection in room was not successful since we stayed at underground floor. We had to connect it at the lobby when use.

The staffs were nice and friendly.

Very nice hotel

Arriving after dark, with fresh snow on the ground, the Baikalskie Terema (BT) looks like a little slice of heaven. On three occasions, we have occupied the entire hotel.  Which means somebody, usually me, gets the worst of the worst rooms. Beds that are indescribably terrible. WiFi only in the lobby area right across from the registration desk.  Unless the person working there is also using his/her device.  The restaurant is not full service, and the nearest eateries are down the steep, muddy hill.  A store is about 10 minutes there/30 minutes back on a 40° descent/ascent winding road of mud. Not for anybody except the healthiest of people.  The first year we stayed at BT, we thought it quaint.  The next two times, it was, simply, unacceptable, even by rural Russian standards.  There are FAR better choices in Listvyanka.  That said, their banya is top notch.  I think it was just rebuilt in 2012 or 2013 after a fire destroyed the previous one.  But that is it, folks.  Do not stay at BT, do not plan to eat at BT.  Just book a banya and hope a taxi driver will take you up that nearly impassible road.

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel. The rooms are a little run down and beds are not very comfortable. The house keeper kept turning off the heating (electric ) so we were cold at night - did not always notice that the plug was out. Service for breakfast is nice but very slow - we almost missed breakfast on day 2 because we had to leave. Nice location and view on the village
